RIVIERA BAY HOLIDAY PARK, BRIXHAM

Advantages: LOCATION
Disadvantages: ACCOMODATION AND POOR VALUE FOR MONEY

Riviera Bay Holiday Camp, Brixham We had a 3 night weekend break at this site last month, and I wish to warn anyone tempted to book a holiday there - the accomodation is just the pits and it really does spoil what should be a relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the country. On the positive - The site overlooks St Mary's Bay, which is beautiful. The entertainment laid on, like bowling and a night club, looks reasonable. The staff at reception are ...
...variety of drinks and food, which looks eatable but relies very heavily on pork/bacon, so we didn't sample it. On the negative - apart from the chalets - the take away was expensive and staffed by very disinterested youngsters, and the resulting food was tastless and poor value. The shop is scruffy and very very hot in warm weather, so I am sure the 'fresh' food soon isn't. It is the chalets that beggar belief. They are in long rows and make Hi ...

Paignton (pronounce Pain-tun) got its name from Paega's Town , the original Celtic settlement. There were a couple of spellings (Peynton, Paington) before the finally settled on the name we know today. History; A village believed to be dated back to 700AD and is mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086. Paington remained a small fishing village until the 19th Century, when in 1837 a harbour was built for the town. The original harbour still exists ...
...was opened in 1859, linking Paignton and Torquay with London. Now operated as a heritage railway. Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway operates from Paignton to Kingswear, passing the sea and the River Dart. -The beautiful Oldway Mansion was built in the 1870s for Isaac Singer, the inventor of the sewing machine. Rebuilt in the early 1900's by his son in the style of Palace of Versailles. During World war I, it became an American Women's War Relief ...

The Beauty Of Croyde

Advantages: Beach, Bay, Village Atmosphere
Disadvantages: Tourists (but we all are)

...adventures began. Driving into Croyde we travelled from Honiton in Devon and headed for Barnstable. The trip from Barnstable to the picturesque village of Croyde brought about stunning sights and views as we passed smaller villages all situated along the coastline. On entering Croyde it was apparent that this small village was a very popular place. With excellent surfing facilities I was expecting the village to be heavily populated with tourists ...
...based in the heart of Croyde is famous for its live music and community spirit. We sat in the sunshine; though the pub offers plenty of indoor seating should you wish to sit indoors. In addition to The Thatch, there is also The Manor; both pubs do excellent food, though if I had to choose one I would definitely recommend The Manor for a great meal. Both pubs were bustling despite being end of season. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating ...

Self Catering not in that Kitchen!

Advantages: Unlimited Free access to the castle & grounds
Disadvantages: Very small kitchen

Having written a review for Watermouth Castle, I thought I should add a bit about the accommodation that is available at the Castle. Mid way through last July we visited and stayed at Watermouth Castle in North Devon. The Castle is not only a theme park but also has six apartments as well. Upon arriving at the Castle on the Saturday (as this is change over day) we were warmly welcomed by the owners of the apartments and castle, and were shown to ...
...it takes to get to Watermouth Lodges. This has a small shop in it which sells the basics like milk and bread. It also has a restaurant and bar. The food isn't spectacular but after all you do get what you pay for and this really isn't that expensive. ***** Local Information ***** The nearest large shop is a Somerfield about 3 miles in Ilfracombe, and Ilfracombe is also the nearest town, and has the nearest Hospital. For the nearest train station ...

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

Advantages: Plenty to do for the whole family
Disadvantages: A few initial problems

Background Landscove Holiday Park is situated on Berry Head, a part of Brixham in Devon. Brixham is a fishing town on the English Riviera which stretches from Brixham in the South to Torquay, 8 miles further north. The site boasts very picturesque scenery, overlooking the English channel from its cliff top position. The site itself is approximately 1.5 miles from Brixham town centre and boasts 120 units of accommodation . Accommodation ...
...Facilities Landscove scores very highly on its excellent facilities. All attractions are situated in the same area of the park which we found very useful as it meant the kids could play in the amusements whilst we sat in the bar having a drink and watching Sky Sports on the big screens. Swimming - The site has both an indoor and an outdoor pool. The indoor pool was more suited to younger children as it was about 10 metres long and 1 ...
