Southgate Hotel Exeter, home from home
Advantages: Within short walking distance of centre, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere Disadvantages: Bar pricey and lounge area needs refurbished
I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for an extended period last year.
Whilst the hotel is due for major refurbishment, the only area this showed was the lounge bar area (flooring). The lounge is comfortable, fabulous large comfy settees, the staff are amazing and cant do enough for you.
Drinks tend to be pricey and the bar menu is limited, although the restaurant serves a lovely evening meal and breakfasts to die for. The continental ... ...of full breakfast, which is normally very good, though during the week can be a bit slow dependent on your choice of breakfast time.
The hotel seems to cater mostly for business people during the week , weekends, older couples and wedding parties.
The rooms are a good size and all have ensuite (they even have volume controls so you can listen to the TV or radio in the bath!!) Good selection of "smellies" in the bathroom too, with clean fresh towels ...

Plymouth Copthore Hotel
Advantages: Great Location Disadvantages: More of a Good 3* Hotel than a 4* Hotel.
...mixed views on the Plymouth Copthorne Hotel. I have stayed here numerous times, and have experienced a variety of services from "average" to "good".
Official details about the hotel (and booking rates) can be found here: http://www.benbow.org.uk/CopthornePlymouth.htm
First of all, I have never had a "bad" experience in the Copthorne. There have been times where an issue arose, but this was then sorted out by the front desk staff. Saying that, the ... ...so the rate at the Copthorne isn't that bad.
It is located at the top end of the town. This means it is great to explore Plymouth - the shopping is on your doorstep, and Plymouth Hoe and Barbican are about a 10 minute walk away. It is also away from the bars/pubs that are at the lower end of town, so noise disturbance is surprisingly low for a town center hotel.
When you check out, you are more than welcome to leave bags at reception for the rest ...

Perfect for business and pleasure
Advantages: Quality rooms, great food and endless facilities Disadvantages: None
The Palace Hotel is a magnificent building set on the edge of the Torquay seafront. I went the stay there as part of a company team building weekend and it was fantastic. The ground and facilities, not to mention the bar, helped us to have a really fun filled time. We went round their golf course, play tennis and went swimming most days. Sadly we had to have one or two conferences during the few days but everything else about the hotel made up for ...

I could murder a good breakfast!
Advantages: Good quality, pleasant helpful staff. Disadvantages: A walk to the centre
We were only going away for a couple of days but for some reason, known only to him, my husband decided that he had very particular requirements as to where we were going to stay and what he expected from the hotel. I managed to book a discounted room at the Grand Hotel in Torquay which seemed to match my husband's requirements for an easy walk to the beach and "a proper breakfast".
We arrived at the hotel and although the car parking spaces were ... ...staff were especially polite and helpful. The hotel, true to its name, was very grand, an imposing site set on the sea front in Torbay, but quite a way from the main town of Torquay, about 10 mins or thereabouts (but we are both quite fit and quick walkers). We actually found the location ideal as it meant the hotel was quite quiet at night.
Our room was a good size and had a view of the sea from a side window. I found the decor in our room a bit ...

Hotels.
Advantages: Top quality hotel offering stunning views. Disadvantages: Doesn't look very nice from the outside.
...up on the top of Plymouth Hoe. Offering all of the facilities that you could ask for in a hotel - bedrooms; top class restaurant; leisure facilities; right next to the city centre, and overlooking one of the best bays in the country at least. Although it doesn't look very nice from the oustide, once you step inside you realise that your first impressions were wrong. And what is even better is that the restaurant is on the top floor with windows on ... ...countryside on one side, through the glorious sea views with naval ships, cross-channel ferries and other smaller floating vessels, to the rolling Cornish hills and countryside on the other. The majoirty of bedrooms also have these views, whoch are outstanding to wake up to on a lovely summer's day. It is priced in the middle of the road range, what you expect to pay on average for a hotel like this in many cities. Go and stay in it, and you will ...
