.....and they say no-one ever complains!!

Advantages: Nice situation
Disadvantages: Grumpy staff, smelly room and terrible food

The food was dreadful (truly, truly dreadful), the bedroom smelly, and the staff either didn't speak English, or were dismissive and patronising. Some of the front desk staff were clipped and condescending in their attitude. My party had concerns we wished to pass on to a supervisor, and we were told that 85% of the guests hadn't complained, so there couldn't be a problem. The refurbishment that apparently started some time ago (looking back on ...
...far (and there are still wires dangling everywhere). The advertised pool was green and slimy, and the advertised Indian restaurant wasn't there. (Again, looking back on this site, the pool hasn't been available for much of the year). We, as a group, were there for a dancing weekend, but the floor was far too small and, on one occasion, a major leak directly above the dance-floor left us all strutting our stuff around buckets and towels on a damp ...

The Hoops Inn

Advantages: Nice part of the country
Disadvantages: Not worth the money

...only 10 months old. The Hoops Inn, which we found in the Good Pub Guide, seemed to offer what we parents wanted. When I rang to enquire I specifically asked for a family room and clearly stated that we needed a quiet room. I was told that Room 4 was suitable for us. The Location and Buildings: Hoops is located on the A39 main road between Bideford and Bude. It is about 5 miles from the tourist trap of Clovelly and about 20 miles from the surfing ...
...and Mum carried our son! Hoops also have large areas of gardens at the rear but the weather wasn't favourable enough for us to explore them so I can't really comment on them. Reception and arrival: You enter the hotel at the rear of the old building and through a section of the newer annexe. The reception desk is located near the main bar where our first impression was of a nice looking olde worlde pub/restaurant. Unfortunately our second impression ...

Go west!

Advantages: inexpensive and convenient
Disadvantages: the bed!

My parents live in Dawlish and, I don't know whether they were trying to tell us something, but the moment my sisters and I had all left home, they promptly sold the family home and moved into a one bedroom flat! It's lovely for them, but it does mean that every time we want to come and visit we need to find accommodation elsewhere. After having tried a few other options, we now seem to have settled on the Exeter Travelodge as our place to stay when ...
...price! Firstly it is very well located as it is part of the Exeter Service area at Junction 30 of the M5 which is the main route into Devon and Cornwall from just about anywhere else in the country. The actual address is: Moto Service Area M5 Motorway, Sandygate, Exeter, EX2 7HF‎ The fact that it is located at the service area means that if you are using it as a stopover on a longer journey, you don't have to worry about wasting time trying ...

A Bad Nights Sleep at Plymouth Travelodge

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Lumpy Beds, Noisy

...having never stayed in a Travelodge before, but had heard that they were a cheap alternative. ~~Price~~ I have to say that I was quite shocked at how much one night would cost as I have stayed in cheaper and more luxurious places than this before. Unfortunately we couldn’t find a room anywhere else in Plymouth for that night due to various events that were taking place in the city. The Travelodge we eventually looked at didn’t have any standard ...
...payment. ~~Location~~ The Travelodge is in a great location within Plymouth, although it also has some downsides to this particular location. The hotel is right in the middle of the town centre - a stones throw away from all the shop and is located at the back of Union Street (main street running through the town). This means pretty much everything you would want to see is within walking distance. However the downside to this location is that ...

Advantages: Really convenient location, Good value from all aspects, excells in quality, service and food
Disadvantages: none

...sleep after staying at the Best Western Tiverton Hotel. The room was absolutely spotless, the staff very friendly - and facilities surprised me with free Wifi, a printer, flat screen tv, desk/office area and an exceptionally comfy bed. Food and service in the restaurant couldn't be faulted - 2 courses and a pint for under £20. Very convenient location. This hotel is a hidden gem and comes highly recommended ...
