Friendly Service - a real gem of a hotel
Advantages: Really convenient location, Good value from all aspects, excells in quality, service and food
Disadvantages: none

The room was absolutely spotless, the staff very friendly - and facilities surprised me with free Wifi, a printer, flat screen tv, desk/office area and an exceptionally comfy bed. Food and service in the restaurant couldn't be faulted - 2 courses and a pint for under £20. Very convenient location. This hotel is a hidden gem and comes highly recommended ...

Great hotel - but . . .
Advantages: Friendly service and excellent restaurant
Disadvantages: Poor room cleaning
We stayed at this hotel in September 2006. It is in a good location, about 5 minutes walk from the shopping centre and a few more minutes to cathedral freen. It is opposite a small car park where overnight parking was free with a ticket from the hotel but there is a charge during the daytime.

The restaurant serves excellent food and the Set Menu is amazing value. No wonder it was full on the Friday night. Breakfast was also excellent with a good selection of home made items, surprisingly extensive for the size of hotel.
The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. There are tea and coffee making facilities, a small television and a radio. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom ...

Advantages: Nice situation
Disadvantages: Grumpy staff, smelly room and terrible food
The food was dreadful (truly, truly dreadful), the bedroom smelly, and the staff either didn't speak English, or were dismissive and patronising. Some of the front desk staff were clipped and condescending in their attitude. My party had concerns we wished to pass on to a supervisor, and we were told that 85% of the guests hadn't complained, so there couldn't be a problem.
The refurbishment that apparently started some time ago (looking back on ...
...far (and there are still wires dangling everywhere). The advertised pool was green and slimy, and the advertised Indian restaurant wasn't there. (Again, looking back on this site, the pool hasn't been available for much of the year).
We, as a group, were there for a dancing weekend, but the floor was far too small and, on one occasion, a major leak directly above the dance-floor left us all strutting our stuff around buckets and towels on a damp ...

Home Farm Hotel, Wilmington
Advantages: Pretty village
Disadvantages: Poor value for money
Overall a disappointing stay, and poor value for money. Despite having booked in 3 months in advance, on arrival we were told that we had no reservation. It was only on production of email confirmation of our booking that a room was "found" for us.
The room was disappointing: very cramped,musty, light did not work (bulb was missing and not replaced despite request), and the bathroom had seen better days. Although it was advertised as having a shower, ...
...and nowhere for the shower head to attach to.
Breakfast was chaotic, with only one person waiting on the tables. My scrambled eggs turned up without toast - I had to ask for that and it took another 5 minutes. Then I had to ask for butter, which took another few minutes - by which time the rest of my table had finished their cooked breakfasts, get the picture?
I do not feel it was worth almost £90 per night for the standard of service and accomodation ...

Coombe cross Hotel - a trip into the 1970's
Advantages: Close to some points of interest
Disadvantages: Not geared up for younger families
...listening monitors and family friendliness. Coombe cross failed us personally on all counts. When we arrived there was no cot despite this being outlined as a prerequisite, even after phoning ahead mid-journey to double check it was ready for our sleeping 1 year old the sole cot on the premises was in use, so my daughter waitied in the car, at 10pm, until one arrived. At breakfast we were hastily informed that for mealtimes they only had one high-chair ...
...of being there first - so fingers crossed we didnt want to eat at the same times!! As for the monitor they advertise as having available so that parents can have a relaxing meal in the restaurant - they didn't exist as we requested the use of this "facility"...so rather than a relaxing romantic dinner for 2, I went out for take-away pizza which we ate in the room, quietly and in darkeness, so as not to disturb the sleeping kids
