Promised a lot, but let down - we were so disappointed
Advantages: Lovely location and building Disadvantages: Service and Food
We stayed 3 nights on half board - the location is lovely and the hotel seemed very nice on arrival. Our first disappointment came with the evening meal - the food is mass produced and left a lot to be desired - the beef from the carvery was a bit tough and the vegtables were just so over cooked (probably due to standing on the hotplate for so long). The smorgasboard on the saturday night was th best foor of our stay. On returning to our room on ... ...It was alo there the following morning. We reported it to reception and they did send someone to come and have a look, but he coudn't solve the problem. It was obviously an ongoing problem from what we were told by the cleaning staff - Room 38 - avoid it. Certainly the management didn't ask if we were happy after reporting the problem. In fact another area of disappointment was the restuarant staff - they seemd to be much more interested in clearing ...

The Towers Hotel, Ilfracombe
Advantages: Great views, lovely (and very clean) building, excellent hosts, close to town centre Disadvantages: None
The North Devon coast is, for me, one of the most fantastic places in the UK. There are lots of activities to do in the area including surfing, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, scuba diving, wildlife-watching, fishing, and exploring.
My wife and I have just enjoyed a stay at the Towers Hotel in Ilfracombe, which is an ideal location for visiting north Devon. The hotel is a spectacular Victorian-style building with the slightly-over-the-top architecture ... ...The interior is kept in-style with the overall building and is exceptionally clean and tidy. Even the Victorian features such as the high ceilings, covings and high skirting boards were in clean, good condition which must take a lot of work by the owners.
There is ample car-parking for all guests, and also a small bar and lounge area for the guests to use (although a TV and tea and coffee making facilities are availble in all of the rooms).
The ...

Terrible experience
Advantages: nice location Disadvantages: everything else
My visit to the Lee Bay Inn left a very bitter taste in my mouth, and is the worst hotel experience I have had. Me and my girlfriend arrived at 7:30pm after a 3hr drive looking forward to a bite to eat, a stroll round the local area and an early night. However on our arrival we were first greeted with a very pedantic system for dinner, where we had to commit there and then to exactly where, when, and what we wanted to eat. After which we went to ... ...and reason why we selected Lee Bay in the 1st place), it also soon became apparent this hotel is 95% populated by over 65yr olds, is totally inappropriate for a young couple like us, and we would not be staying there as a result. Lee Bay would have known this, yet still sent us there, presumably as a way of getting us out of there hair. At this point I was upset and angry, as a pleasant weekend away had turned into a hugely stressful situation were ...

An excellent hotel in the heart of Ilfracombe
Advantages: close to town centre and shops, ample parking for guests, fridges in rooms, beautiful landscaped gardens, exceptionally friendly staff Disadvantages: evening meals a little on the expenside side and have to be booked in advance
I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now, on both occasions as a stopping off point en route to Lundy, a small island just across the Bristol Channel. The hotel is impressively run by Hilary and her husband Robin, with a super friendly and efficient receptionist named Helen.
Rooms are comfortable and well furnished with fridges and everything that you need for your comfort and convenience. The hotel itself is situated just outisde the town ... ...a short cut into town along the harbour front. They offer ample parking, and a particularly useful Lundy package for those visiting the island, whereby if you stay for a night either before or after your trip to the island, they will pay for a taxi down to the harbour and let you leave your car free of charge for the duration of your stay.
As someone who has to have a wheat free diet and therefore needs to take half their food with them to the island, ...
