The North Devon coast is, for me, one of the most fantastic places in the UK. There are lots of activities to do in the area including surfing, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, scuba diving, wildlife-watching, fishing, and exploring. My wife and I have just enjoyed a stay at the Towers Hotel in Ilfracombe, which is an ideal location for visiting north Devon. Advantages: inexpensive and convenient
Disadvantages: the bed!

Wrong personality for hospitality coupled with dingy family suite

Advantages: The precooked breakfast was ok, Kingsbridge Inn - excellent pub/restaurant

We chose the Old Forge in Totnes because it looked like a quaint old building that had been developed into a comfortable BnB. The man who greeted us when we arrived was civil but was not a friendly character (which you would expect in a quaint BnB). As 3 single adults we booked the family suite with 3 separate beds.
