a small friendly hotel with personal touch
Advantages: Very close to the Town Centre and Harbour Disadvantages: Nothing to dislike
We stayed in the Palms Hotel from 11 September 2007 for three nights. We stayed in the four poster room. Our proprieters were really pleasant helful people. We have decided that we will be returning at a later date.
Our room was really nice and the service was marvellous. Whatever the needs or requirements were our hosts were happy to oblige. On one of our nights we were unsure where to eat so they suggested a few places one of which we chose. It ... ...people with children and a bar on request. Torquay was a fabulous place to visit made better by our hosts. The hotel was small but beautiful. Just a short walk away from the harbour and the main town area.
Our thanks go to our hosts. Like we say we will be returning at a later date probably for longer. ...

camping in a civilised manner
Advantages: on the edge of Dartmoor national park, bar always open for good food and drinks Disadvantages: none in my view
...not actually slept in the Fox and Hounds but I’ve spent plenty of time sleeping in their garden and I’d best explain that comment quickly before you imagine im so drunk I cant get home !
The Fox and Hounds has Dartmoor national park right behind it. In a field behind the hotel they allow camping in tents, caravans and motor homes. I’ve spent a fair bit of time eating and drinking inside though. This is a really nice place and it was a hard decision ... ...why I am sure the Fox and Hounds never gets as full as it should.
Me … I like it and I’m going to tell you why:
The large campsite has direct access to the moor behind it .camp site here http://www.foxandhoundshotel.com/images/camping2.jpg
When I go to Dartmoor I go to walk, eat and drink, except the order really goes walk-eat-drink-sleep-?-eat-walk-eat-sleep and repeat. You can eat what you like if you intend to walk and Dartmoor is the place ...

Local, cheap and convenient
Advantages: Cheap, cosy and friendly family run hotel. Disadvantages: Views and parking limited
I must say that this hotel was a bargain and well worth it!
I found this hotel by looking on www.laterooms.com (this website is great!). All other hotels in Plymouth were either too expensive or too far away from the city centre of Plymouth. This hotel cost just £47.50 a night for a double room which included breakfast and private bathroom. The parking was quite difficult to park in but easy to find. You have to access it via a back lane, however ... ...spaces for about 5/6 cars and a few more spaces on the lane itself. This parking was reasonably secure. The hotel is quite easy to find as long as you have some sort of map in front of you. Its on a main road andits bright blue colour stands out from the rest of the street.
The location of this hotel is actually only a 5 minute walk from town and the train station. There is a bit of a hill but nothing too harsh. There is a bus stop just a few yards ...

Meadfoot Bay Hotel,Torquay.
Advantages: Great hospitality, comfy clean rooms, cracking breakfast! Disadvantages: Distance from the centre of Torquay
...I stumbled across the Meadfoot Bay Hotel and I thought it was great that they had their own website www.meadfoot.com. I browsed the pages and was happy with what i saw, so decided to pick up the phone to see if they had any availability. Lucky for us, they had 1 room left which was a double and incidentally was room No.1. The hotel itself is set 200m from Meadfoot bay (a superb, quiet spot with excellent walks and a lovely beach). I decided to take ... ...them as we were looking at a 15min walk to the harbour, nightlife and main shopping area. Flatties all the way afraid to say...unless you want to get a taxi of course! - I would say this was the only disadvantage.
The hotel is ran by Chris, Caroline, Gary and Natalie Waters who strive on giving their guests a very warm and hospitable welcome. We were greeted by Gary who was extremely friendly and gave us the impression that 'nothing was too much ...

The Towers Hotel, Ilfracombe
Advantages: Great views, lovely (and very clean) building, excellent hosts, close to town centre Disadvantages: None
The North Devon coast is, for me, one of the most fantastic places in the UK. There are lots of activities to do in the area including surfing, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, scuba diving, wildlife-watching, fishing, and exploring.
My wife and I have just enjoyed a stay at the Towers Hotel in Ilfracombe, which is an ideal location for visiting north Devon. The hotel is a spectacular Victorian-style building with the slightly-over-the-top architecture ... ...The interior is kept in-style with the overall building and is exceptionally clean and tidy. Even the Victorian features such as the high ceilings, covings and high skirting boards were in clean, good condition which must take a lot of work by the owners.
There is ample car-parking for all guests, and also a small bar and lounge area for the guests to use (although a TV and tea and coffee making facilities are availble in all of the rooms).
The ...
