Local, cheap and convenient

Advantages: Cheap, cosy and friendly family run hotel.
Disadvantages: Views and parking limited

I must say that this hotel was a bargain and well worth it! I found this hotel by looking on www.laterooms.com (this website is great!). All other hotels in Plymouth were either too expensive or too far away from the city centre of Plymouth. This hotel cost just £47.50 a night for a double room which included breakfast and private bathroom. The parking was quite difficult to park in but easy to find. You have to access it via a back lane, however ...
...spaces for about 5/6 cars and a few more spaces on the lane itself. This parking was reasonably secure. The hotel is quite easy to find as long as you have some sort of map in front of you. Its on a main road andits bright blue colour stands out from the rest of the street. The location of this hotel is actually only a 5 minute walk from town and the train station. There is a bit of a hill but nothing too harsh. There is a bus stop just a few yards ...

Meadfoot Bay Hotel,Torquay.

Advantages: Great hospitality, comfy clean rooms, cracking breakfast!
Disadvantages: Distance from the centre of Torquay

...I stumbled across the Meadfoot Bay Hotel and I thought it was great that they had their own website www.meadfoot.com. I browsed the pages and was happy with what i saw, so decided to pick up the phone to see if they had any availability. Lucky for us, they had 1 room left which was a double and incidentally was room No.1. The hotel itself is set 200m from Meadfoot bay (a superb, quiet spot with excellent walks and a lovely beach). I decided to take ...
...them as we were looking at a 15min walk to the harbour, nightlife and main shopping area. Flatties all the way afraid to say...unless you want to get a taxi of course! - I would say this was the only disadvantage. The hotel is ran by Chris, Caroline, Gary and Natalie Waters who strive on giving their guests a very warm and hospitable welcome. We were greeted by Gary who was extremely friendly and gave us the impression that 'nothing was too much ...

Royal Fleet Club experience

Advantages: None that I can think of
Disadvantages: Cramped, scruffy, noisy and bad food

Arrived here after 5 hour drive from London. Very hard to imagine poorer value for money or facilities. Grubby and very cramped double room. Cigarette burns in blanket on rock-hard bed. Window didn't shut and curtains couldn't shut out light or noise from downstairs party, which also didn't meet at top due to being broken. Oh yes - we were banned from the hotel bar by an extremely agresssive woman because we were not part of the party. Bathroom Shower ...
...in case you forgot to bring your own. (Like us)! 'Minature' TV which just about managed 3 stations by performing acrobatics with manual set-top aerial. Shoddy attempt at amateur decorating with blue paint dripping from walls onto white paintwork. The 'Last Straw' was breakfast where at no time were ALL the ingredients of the so called cooked breakfast assembled at any one time! This necessitated queueing for a grim and greasy breakfast which had ...

Review of Royal Fleet Club, Plymouth

a small friendly hotel with personal touch

Advantages: Very close to the Town Centre and Harbour
Disadvantages: Nothing to dislike

We stayed in the Palms Hotel from 11 September 2007 for three nights. We stayed in the four poster room. Our proprieters were really pleasant helful people. We have decided that we will be returning at a later date. Our room was really nice and the service was marvellous. Whatever the needs or requirements were our hosts were happy to oblige. On one of our nights we were unsure where to eat so they suggested a few places one of which we chose. It ...
...people with children and a bar on request. Torquay was a fabulous place to visit made better by our hosts. The hotel was small but beautiful. Just a short walk away from the harbour and the main town area. Our thanks go to our hosts. Like we say we will be returning at a later date probably for longer. ...

Review of Palms Hotel, Torquay

Disappointing but has potential

Advantages: Sea view
Disadvantages: Needs moderising, useless shower, broken toilet seat

...This is an old, outdated hotel and they still use mortice locks on the bedroom doors attached to a long hard plastic tag with your room 'name' on it (yes names, not numbers!). The key hole was very close to the door frame and with the plastic tag on the key ring it was dificult to turn the key without your hand getting stuck between the key and the door frame. Once inside the room, my eye was immediately drawn to the patio door and the view beyond ...
...nicer. So overall, this hotel falls short of being satisfactory and if it weren't for the sea view, I'd have scored this a 1 star. It is also located 20 minutes walk from the town centre so not really in a central position either. There are probably better hotels in Torquay than this for value for money so I'd only recommend this as a last resort. ...
