Disappointing but has potential

Disadvantages: Needs moderising, useless shower, broken toilet seat

...This is an old, outdated hotel and they still use mortice locks on the bedroom doors attached to a long hard plastic tag with your room 'name' on it (yes names, not numbers!). The key hole was very close to the door frame and with the plastic tag on the key ring it was dificult to turn the key without your hand getting stuck between the key and the door frame. Once inside the room, my eye was immediately drawn to the patio door and the view beyond ...
...nicer. So overall, this hotel falls short of being satisfactory and if it weren't for the sea view, I'd have scored this a 1 star. It is also located 20 minutes walk from the town centre so not really in a central position either. There are probably better hotels in Torquay than this for value for money so I'd only recommend this as a last resort. ...

A good night to all.

Advantages: In city centre, large comfortable rooms good breakfast
Disadvantages: poor parking, small towels!

I stayed for one night with my wife when attending a friend's wedding which was held here. we had a special wedding price of £85 inc. breakfast which was very reasonable when you consider the normal price is £160!. We booked over the phone and the staff were very helpful, confirmation arrived in the post a couple of days later including directions and facilities, this is when we learnt of the parking. Check in is after 2 pm and we arrived at 3 the staff were very friendly and although it was very busy they were very attentive to detail. Advantages: Great Location
Disadvantages: More of a Good 3* Hotel than a 4* Hotel.

...so the rate at the Copthorne isn't that bad. It is located at the top end of the town. This means it is great to explore Plymouth - the shopping is on your doorstep, and Plymouth Hoe and Barbican are about a 10 minute walk away. It is also away from the bars/pubs that are at the lower end of town, so noise disturbance is surprisingly low for a town center hotel. Southgate Hotel Exeter, home from home

Advantages: Within short walking distance of centre, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages: Bar pricey and lounge area needs refurbished

I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for an extended period last year. Whilst the hotel is due for major refurbishment, the only area this showed was the lounge bar area (flooring). The lounge is comfortable, fabulous large comfy settees, the staff are amazing and cant do enough for you. Friendly Service - a real gem of a hotel

Advantages: Really convenient location, Good value from all aspects, excells in quality, service and food

The room was absolutely spotless, the staff very friendly - and facilities surprised me with free Wifi, a printer, flat screen tv, desk/office area and an exceptionally comfy bed.
