Fantastic food with a twist
Advantages: Fantastic menu cooked to perfection Disadvantages: None
The Anchor Inn is located in Beer not far from Exeter. The Inn is just a stone’s throw from the pebbled beach. The Anchor Inn is a hotel with 8 en-suite bedrooms, a bar which of course serves real fine ales and a restaurant which specialises in fresh local seafood. On one of my many Sunday stints out into the country, I fancied a change from the all too present pub food and was looking for something with a bit more twist for my beloved Sunday lunch. ... ...not disappointed!
Having brought the rest of my family, I had the opportunity to taste several starters and main dishes. As a light starter, I had chosen the Smoked salmon and crayfish tail basket with a zesty lemon crème fraiche which was slightly pricy at £6.45. This was to be followed by a Baked Strawberry Grouper on a bed of mashed potato mixed with crabmeat and a butter parsley sauce costing £16.95, so also a slightly more expensive choice. ...

The Waterside Bistro at Totnes
Advantages: Great food, friendly staff and a lovely setting near the river dart Disadvantages: no parking, need to book restaurant in advance,
...a regular visitor to the waterside in Totnes and wholeheartedly recommend it, whether you are a diserning gourmet or belong to the bowl of chips brigade it has something to suit both alike. I sometimes meet mates here after work for a pint of Erdinger (happy hour from 5pm to 7pm). When the sun's out there's nothing quite like sitting in the sun on the patio with a chilled beer.
The waterside is situated by the river dart next to the old bridge and ... ...with unwelcomed guests on the waterside patio.
The patio also has heaters connected to the outside walls and a covered area which is quite handy if you are eating outside and I imagine the smokers among us will apprieciate that .
The food here is very good, the pizza's are popular and you can chose between margarita, hawaiian, spicy pepperoni, goat's cheese and parma ham. If you want to eat at the restaurant It's recommended to book a few days before ...

Sole But No Soul
Advantages: Good selection of fresh fish, simply presented; the view; willing staff Disadvantages: Uninspired menu, mixed cooking
...a reasonably early table at Beamers restaurant. I liked the look of the “booth” style seating, as too often you end up stuck in a corner or a corridor when there are only two of you. You could hear the smile in their reply that it would be “no problem” when we requested a table with a sea view.
Beamers is located right on the harbour-side in Brixham, in an area packed with eateries. If you are driving, you might be lucky enough to get one of the ... ...on your left!
Although Beamers is located on the first floor of the building it occupies, it was easy to locate, being well marked with a hanging sign and sandwich board at the entrance. The outside of the building looked smart and well-kept, with wooden window boxes planted with trailing greenery sitting below open, hardwood-framed picture windows. However, the stairs were steep and frankly the stairwell was a bit dingy and off-putting, with dark ...

The chain
***********
Pizza Express is one of the largest and most consistently successful restaurant chains on the UK high street. It has survived for 40 years or so because it does what it does well, it knows who its target market is and knows that they want and it delivers consistently. Frankly, I think it is a cut above the Pizza Hut and others (it feels posher, somehow, more of an event, even though the price ... ...very literally, of taste. Pizza Express sell thin, crispy based pizza which an Italian would recognise as a pizza: Pizza Hut sells deep based things that I think should be called pizza pie which an Italian might not recognise, although a New Yorker might. Remember, Budweiser is the American version of a European larger beer – you can choose, but I know which one I would have. The menu and prices

Celebrity Chef's Restaurant
Advantages: Lovely place to eat and socialise Disadvantages: None
...kind of celebration to mark the occasion. I wasn't so sure…were they up to something….if my 40th was anything to go by…a massive banner was hung across the front of my house (when I was out) letting the whole world know! So with some trepidation I agreed that as the big day was on a Sunday we would have all lunch out somewhere. But where? I didn't mind too much, but as I have a four year old niece with extreme food allergies, I suggested that as ... ...making a booking.
FOOTNOTE The Tanner Brothers won the Restaurant of the year award 2007 for their other Plymouth Restaurant The Prysten House. A well deserved win.
So, two weeks prior to the big day The Barbican Kitchen was chosen as the "Venue" due the fact that some members of the family had previously been there and enjoyed it and that the rest of us had always fancied giving it a try . As the food is all freshly cooked there, they would be ...
