Diano Marina is close to the French Riviera, so if you fancy a trip to Nice or Monaco, you can hop on the bus, or the train. The trains are very frequent and pretty cheap too. I have only been to Italy once, and there are many loveley cities and resorts in Italy so I've been told. But I really have wonderful memories of Diano Marina, on the Italian Riviera. It is set in a wide bay with sandy beaches. It has a palm fringed promenade, and quite an elegant atmosphere, there are plenty of shops and lots of pavement cafe's and restaurants when you need to stop for a break or to watch the world go by. It has an old town, with a weekly market, beautiful church and narrow cobbled streets. The locals were very hospitable, and very helpful in the shops as my Italian is practically nil!
The pace of life is different, we travelled at the end of May and it felt like high summer to me. The day starts earlier, people getting their shopping done by midday, to take the afternoon siesta, little wonder as the temperatures were in the eighties.
We stayed in a small but comfortable hotel with views of the bay.
We decided to take a bus to the next town of Imperia, which was the old capital of the Italian Riviera. You can buy a bus ticket from a newsagents shop, this is how it is done over there. Imperia was full of atmosphere, the main square where you get off the bus is large, with a fountain in the middle. The buildings are mostly old, in loveley pastel colours with shuttered windows. There are many designer shops in Imperia, and it has a cosmopolitan feel. There are also many places to stop and eat or drink, forget about watching your weight, you've no chance here!
Be prepared for a shortage of public conveniences though, in Imperia we had to go into a cafe to have coffee to avail ourselves the use of their toilet. It is the accepted thing there apparently, a case of "you scratch my back and I'll .................let you use the loo"!.
If you have never been to Italy, the driving tends to be a bit erratic, watching the Italians cross a road is very entertaining! They just tend to step out, taking their life in their hands, and hope that the traffic will slow down!!! I personally decided not to emulate them, being a bit cautious I waited for a decent gap before venturing across the road. Of course if you find a crossing then all the better :-). There are motor scooters everywhere, so be careful on the roads. The buses, we found to be driven very well, each time we used them.

We went to Nice, such an interesting place, the public buildings are very nice, some old an elegant, some very modern. So many contrasts, from the Hotels for the mega rich, to the basic B & B's. It is a very long walk from one end of the Promenade De Anglais to the other, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything! Again, at busy times crossing the road alongside the promenade can take some time, as there is a dual carraigeway with three lanes each way, but there are pedestrian crossing points ;- The sea was really blue, which looked beautiful, and there were topless sunworshipers aplenty! I have to say also that I have never seen so many dented cars in one city!
Lastly, there is one public beach at Diano Marina, which is fine. All of the others are private, and you have to pay a charge, but you get a lounger and sun canopy and the beach is kept in pristine condition. The charges vary, but are around the £4 mark, for a day.
Advantages: Weather, Food, People, Beach, sea, views Disadvantages: A lot more can be done for disabled
Diano Marina is a seaside town nestling on the Italian Riviera in North West Italy. We chose to visit Diano Marina in July, which upon hindsight may not have been the wisest time as the temperatures got quite hot. It was our first our first time to Italy. Our tour guide recommended September/October for visiting or earlier in the year such as April/May. However, we were here and we were going to make the most of it – regardless of the hotness or ... ...hour trip by coach to Diano Marina. The journey between Nice and Diano Marina is nothing if not spectacular. It truly is the most awe inspiring views I have ever seen (but then I am not a seasoned traveller). The motorway (auto strata) on which you travel to Diano Marina is several hundred feet high and despite my fear of heights, I just couldn’t get enough of the mountainous coastal scenes.
Diano Marina itself is a relatively small town with a ...

...aware of the fact that Diano Marina has got a very old past.
Pre-historic remains have been found to confirm that Diano was a major "village" well before the Romans.
The current name comes from the Roman period, when they introduced the cult of "Diana" the Goddess of hunters.
The legend goes that you could hunt, amongst others, the brown bear.
Later on, Diano was many times invaded by the pirats, you can still visit the remains of the observation ... ...Today Diano Marina is very popular with tourists, particularly in summer.
Although I would not recoomend it as a place to spend your holidays in Italy, if it is the first time you visit the country, still, Diano Marina is a pleasant place, also out of the tourist season. ...

Advantages: Good value, good company and a courier Disadvantages: Long journey, too many excursions in the time there.
Last year, as you may know from a previous op I wrote, we went to DianoMarina in Italy.
We went with Hoverland European Holidays who are based in the West Midlands. Cost was a major factor, and we chose Hoverland because the package looked like pretty good value. They offered pick up points from Stafford right down to Dover, and there was no overnight travel.
When we booked the holiday we did ask the rep what time we would be starting our outward journey, she smiled and said it would be early morning. In fact when we pressed her on this she said it could be as early as two in the morning! Oh well, look upon it as part of the holiday I said to my husband.
On the “morning” of our departure (yes, it was a 2 am pickup at Telford), we took a taxi and got to the bus station pretty bleary eyed. We settled down ...
