Got new job, at daughter's school - h'ray! I live on Romney Marsh, my daughter is 12, my partner is a racing driver and racing instructor. My neighbours are mostly sheep, ducks, swans, all manner of wild birds, rabbits and hares.

I visited Dickens World this week - 23.10.2007 - and was very pleasantly surprised. I took my daugher and her friend (12 and 13) and was surprised when the first thing they said was "cool". They do not really know a lot of Dickens, apart from Oliver! and then they've never seen it all the way through, but they loved the place.
The boat ride is really rather good - not up to it's larger theme park cousins, but all the same, there was lots of screaming from the uninitiated! There is a surprise in store for the unaware, and I'm not about to spoil it for you! However, it is not half as frightening, nor as dangerous as the signs at the entrance would have you believe!
The haunted house was a little disappointing, for me anyway, but all the youngsters seemed to enjoy it.
Sometimes you will have to queue for the attractions, but we found that towards the end of the day we could just walk on to the boat ride without another soul in sight!
There is a 4D cinema which is well worth a visit, we were lucky enough to see the last showing so the cinema was almost empty and we didn't feel too silly trying to catch the items that flew toward us.
The prices aren't too bad either:
£12.50 for adults-After 3pm £9.75
£7.50 for children (5 to 15 Years)-After 3pm £6.00
£10.50 for concessions-After 3pm £9.00
Children Under 5 are Free
Open Daily from 10am to 5.30pm Last Admission 4pm
Please note the above open times are for the off peak season from 17th Sept 2007. Opening hours are extended during peak season until 7pm. Please call for more information.
We purchased a guidbook for £1, but unfortunately it is rather dark inside the facility and it is somewhat difficult to read it, unless you go into the toilets which are very, very bright, after the dimness of Old London Town!
They also have several places to eat, entertainment and a bar!
I would thoroughly recommend a visit, if you have older children you could let them go in by themselves and spend your time shopping (there are some Outlet shops just next door) or seeing some of the other historical sights around Chatham Dockyard. There is also a good choice of places to eat, to suit every taste!
So go on - give it a try - there's free parking too!

Advantages: Entertaining, plenty to see and experience, fun, friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: Not a great deal to interact with and do, not a theme park
