When we visited: 26th October 2007 We first thought about going into Dickens World at around lunchtime, however we there was a long queue. We found that by around 2pm the queue was much shorter - this is when we went in. I was a bit worried about the pricing: Adult: £12.50 Child (5-15) £7.50 OAP £10.50
-This had better be worth it!
Upon entering you walk quite a long staircase which as you climb becomes themed to the Dickens era. If you like you can have a photo taken here, we didn't but I'm sure it would cost you more than a few coppers to buy!
After this, you enter out into the Market Square. You can instantly see the attention to detail put into this place to make it seem like it was a regular scene back in Dickens' time. They have obviously spent a lot of money creating this place.
First thing we tried was the boat ride, in the queue line there are constant reminders on the wall of how long you will have to queue for at certain points (60mins, 45mins, 30mins, 15mins). However don't be put off - we found that instead of taking 45 minutes, it took nearer to 30 minutes. We were warned that we would get wet, possibly even soaked - don't worry you do not get soaked, but you will get wet, especially if you sit in a certain place on the boat (not telling where!). There are also photos available after this ride if you like.
Second, we queued up for the Haunted House, which when we went had a long queue into the middle of the market square. What is the haunted house? You walk round the house in groups of 15, stopping at 4 different holograms along the way which each tell a story involving ghosts. However they were not particularly scary and should be suitable for young children. The haunted house took 20 minutes.
We then tried the 3D cinema (or was it 4D?). This was actually very good, it told the story of Charles Dickens and we learnt a lot of things from this which we had not known previously. Everyone else we spoke too also recommended this.
Lastly, we tried the Britannia Theatre. Again, the theme of this room was very fitting and quite realistic. Although this was a very good show technically, we found this quite boring and young children may get bored easily.
Altogether we spent 3hours in this place, although you could easily spend more time. You exit through the gift shop, however I must warn you - They DO NOT sell the candy canes, toffee apples (and other sweets) or the preservatives (jam) in the gift shop at the end so you should by them in the market square within the attraction.
We went with my granddad, but this is more suited to families particularly with younger children. There were quite a lot of stairs which the elderly may find difficult to climb, and not any seats when waiting in queue lines. We even ended up leaving my granddad sitting on a bench while we went in the Haunted House.

Advantages: Entertaining, plenty to see and experience, fun, friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: Not a great deal to interact with and do, not a theme park
