We went to Disneyland Paris a few weeks ago and we loved it. We drove from Newcastle upon Tyne to Dover, sailed with P&O and camped 10 minutes drive from the park (French camp sites are at a few levels above english ones you wouldn't believe it...and all for about 40 euros a night) . We did it all in a long weekend (Fri to Mon included) and with a 4 year old (not always easy to travel long distances with, but overwhelmed by the exitement). The title of the review summarizes what is best about this place: we paid about £60 each and basically entertained ourselves for 2 full days. All rides, shows, exibitions are free and you only pay for the parking (not much either... £5 all day). We make a comparison with what people easily spend on a night out, a meal, a theatre show, and other entertainment and that's why we think this park is really good value for money. Moreover, the park is fantastic itself, in the true meaning of the word. Everything down to the most insignificant particular, like bins and the lights, is themed and once you get in, you do feel you're out of this world. And not only for kids: there are about 5 fantastic adult/teenager kind of rides enough to knock your socks off (unless you are a professional rollercoaster rider). A big bit of advice would be to use the fast pass system: it's fantastic, basically you get to the ride, go to the fast pass ticket machines, insert your entry magnetic ticket, get a fast pass ticket, which will have printed a half an hour stint of time you can use it in, starting from about 1 to 2 hours later, giving you the chance to spend that time in between watching shows or shopping or eating or whatever. Then, you go to the ride within that half hour printed on the fast pass ticket and jump the whole 2 hour waiting queue: it's fantastic. All shows and exibitions are really entertaining and surreal, miles away from the average cinema/theatre show; the one I personally found to be the best was the car stunt show, where you are basically the odience to the set of a movie filmed in Tuscany, but with loads of car and motorbike stunt action. There are plenty of eating places, from fast food to nice stting down theme restaurants. They're a bit expensive, though; we found that taking a picnic is more reasonable and surely healthier. There are water fountains and sprinklers (fantastic when it's hot) all around the park. Also, there are lots of shops to find basically anything and everything themed to the occasion. The highlight of the evening (it's open until 11:30PM !!!) is the night parade (there's also a day parade with many many Disney characters all at once) with lit up moving Disney movie sets completed with a fantastic fire works display.
Oh, don't forget to take a ride around the park in the tram, which will take through some fantastic special effects demonstrations (I said through, remember !!!).
What can I say, I'm 33 years old, not 9 as you might have thought from my description, but those were two really special days not only for our little boy.
And...remember...all for 60 quid each and about 40 for children.
