The DocklandsLight Rail (DLR) operates services in the East of London. Passengers can travel as far as Beckton, Stratford and Lewisham (on the south side of the Thames in a new tunnel). Trains are driverless, meaning that passengers can sit in the 'driving seat' so to speak. An awesome experience!
Built in the regeneration of the Docklands in the 1980's and 1990's, the system carries a large volume of passengers daily. A varied bunch of passengers, from the office worker heading to Canary Wharf or the City, local residents and university students are among the regular users.
Trains run to time all the time, and passengers are kept up to date by screens on platforms, and on the Internet at their website (www.dlr.co.uk). Train furnishings are not fabulous, with plastic seats and thin seat coverings.
Tickets are much the same as Underground ones. Tickets for the Underground can be used on the DLR (Travelcards, LT Cards, Single tickets to destinations on the DLR/Underground). Special DLR tickets can be purchased though, for sole use on the DLR.
Ticket Inspectors check your tickets on trains, so have a valid ticket, or pay a fine!
The views from the trains are awesome. The Dome, Canary Wharf, London City Airport are some of the highlights. The general view is godd either way!

A good op! I love travelling via dlr because it is a great train to see great views. When travelling to Beckton you can see the airport and you can see planes landing.taking off. I also like that the trains are automatic. fromthedarkside
