After many visits to London in my life. Today was the first time i tried the Docklands Light Railway. At first it was quite exciting trying out a new railway but it was also scary bexause the train drove itself! How will be explained later in the review.
..: Frequency :.. Trains are operated at off peak and peak times. They run about every 5-10 minutes. The trains run in all directions at the same times.
..: Safety :.. You might think that because the trains are driverless they are completly unsafe. Well its completly the opposite. The trains are monitored 24/7 by staff at a control room in Poplar. If something goes wrong somewhere on the system the trains will be limited to 20kph. They will also stop automatically in an emergency.
..: Technology :.. Trains are driverless so loads of technology is required to make them work. There is a control room in Poplar where all signals, points and trains are controlled. Trains use an ATP (Automatic Train Protection) which allows a train to run in its own safety zone which no other train is allowed to enter. Trains can go a max speed of 50mph.
..: Prices :.. You pay for a ticket to go into a certain zone. The more zones you enter, the higher the ticket price. For all zones it will set you back £3.80.
..: Conclusion :.. It's a safe network that is state-of-the-art with technology and a great congestion free alternative for the tube!
