Docklands light railway is, rather unsuprisingly a rail link around the London Docklands area. The two most notable stations that it stops at are Stratford and Canary Wharf.
The DLR is a remote controlled train, not like your toy car you used to race but it means the train can be driven without anyone on board. Unlike most railways too, it runs on a single line, like a rollercoaster, rather than tracks. The best thing about the DLR is the screens at each station which inform you when the trains are arriving, and when they are going, and best of all they are always accurate.
The trains themselves are normally very clean and nice, and there are normally fare checkers on 1 train in 3, so no fare dodging! The views around London are fantastic, however if you are travelling at peak time you will more than likely be staring at someones crotch than the Thames as the trains get PACKED in rush hour. At Canary Wharf the trains normally empty, but until then you may have trouble getting on unless you are near Stratford, Bank or Limehouse.
All stations have Oyster card swipe stations so you dont need to buy tickets, but if you dont have an oyster card machines or people at booths are available, and the DLR runs as part of the London underground pricing zones so it is easy to work out your fare.
One other mention; the smaller stations, do have a roof but are exposed to the elements and normally have no, or minimal seating. From personal experience it is not fun waiting for a DLR in the snow at a small station.
