Docklands gets a life
Advantages Great architecture, good range of bars and shops
Disadvantages Not many specific tourist attractions
There was a time when Docklands and Canary Wharf were last on the list of tourist attractions in London. Now that is changing. The massive Canary Wharf development stands like a beacon in east London, with the 50-floor tower at One Canada Square being the tallest building in the UK. Unfortunately, it is closed to the public. However, for fans of architecture, there is plenty here to see and, if you fancy a breather, there are a growing number of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. A cinema has also opened near Westferry and Cabot Hall hosts regular musical and comedy nights. Beyond Canary Wharf, try exploring the rest of Docklands using the Docklands Light Railway. There is the Mudchute Park and Farm for children, Docklands Sailing Centre and more. It may not be a full day out, but it's a useful stopping off point on your way to Greenwich, the Millennium Dome or central London.
