This popular bistro, founded in 1925, offers a no-nonsense atmosphere and has many devotees. The menu is as modest as the establishment and its prices, but you get a good choice of fresh grilled fish and shellfish dishes. Ignore the paper napkins and concentrate on the fine kettle of fish before you. Clams in savory sauce are a justifiable favorite, and sole is regularly featured -- but, of course, everything depends on the catch of the day. Service is slow but amiable.
...Earlier this year I visited Portugal, landing in Faro and staying approximately 20 miles from Faro in a small town near Loule.
The main tourist occupation would seem to be golf as there are golfing parks everywhere, however if you visit the local towns you will find a variety of other things to occupy your time.
At the time of my holiday the Loule 2000 carnival was in full swing, a lot of time and effort was put into the costumes and floats and they where very impressive. The atmosphere was wonderful.
The time of my holiday was in March 2000, the weather was wonderful the temperature averaging in the 70's. There are a lot of English living in this area of Portugal, but when you do come across a local, they are usually very friendly.

Advantages: close to airport and inexpensive Disadvantages: some aircraft noise
...The Monaco is situated in the Montenegro district of Faro only a stones throw from the airport. It is an ideal location if you have an early morning flight and would like a nights sleep before traveling.
The hotel runs a regular shuttle to the airport for no extra charge and it is possible when checking in to arrange your own personal time if the timetable does not suit.
The hotel is very comfortable and not very expensive.
All rooms are pleasantly furnished and ensuite with tv and telephone plus mini bar and many have balconies.
The outdoor pool is situated in pleasant gardens and enjoys sun most of the day.
There is also an indoor pool and health spa open to residents.
The dining room was being refurbished on my last visit in May 2007 so it was not possible to dine but on previous visits I have enjoyed some excellent meals at very...
