It's not often I contribute to these kinds of reviews panels, but on this occasion, I feel I must. We arrived at The Doll's House as a group of six, and, for the first half hour were attended to promptly and politely. However, on looking at the menu - which can only be described as minimalistic - we were shocked by the prices.
When our food arrived, after a long and complicated ordering process in which we felt that the waitress did not listen to anything we said, it was nicely presented, but arrived in such a drawn out manner that by the time the last meal came to the table, the first to arrive was flat cold (which, incidentally, was mine, and could not be described as hot when it arrived). The vegetables which came with the food would have fed three at most, yet we were compelled to spread them between six, and when we asked for some more, a significantly smaller portion arrived, long after our meals were cold (and in some cases, completely eaten). At fifteen pounds for a dish of crumbed salmon, I expected more.
The house wines were overpriced at £13.95 a bottle, and, to be honest, were not good. Imagining what £30 would have allowed me to cook at home, I broke out in a cold sweat. The service was generally acceptable, but, on receiving the bill at around 10.20 (we were the last group to finish our meals, having had trouble getting a table), we were asked to take a look over it, and pay "in our own time" by a waitress who appeared to resent our being there, and apparently wished we would shove off home.
At a total of £150 for six small and cold main courses, two bottles of very poor wine and three deserts, we left feeling thoroughly ripped off, and my own opinion is that The Doll's House, which has such a glowing reputation amongst the people of St. Andrews, can only have been confused with a better, more convivial and more reasonably priced restaurant somewhere else in town. I will definately NOT be going back.

Advantages: We went to the Grill House instead were the staff are excellent. Disadvantages: My mother has difficulty walking and we had to walk elsewhere.
