Have you ever wanted to swim with dolphins or sharks, then the dolphin cove at treasure reef Jamaica is the place to go, for the experience of a life time.
Dolphin cove is located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, very close to Dunn's River Falls.
ABOUT DOLPHIN COVE
Dolphin cove is Jamaica's number one marine attraction. The cove its self is set in Jamaica's tropical north coast, this natural cove is surrounded by five acres of tropical rain forest, so the scenery is out of this world, you can only imagine why the cove was nominated for the world travel award in 2007.
Here you can swim and interact with a family of bottle nose blue dolphins, in their natural habitat of the Caribbean ocean itself, you can enjoy the thrill and love of these stunning animals, during your visit.
A new edition to dolphin cove is the shark encounter, here you can have the rare opportunity of meeting the most fascinating and fearsome of all sea creatures the shark, hold, touch, feed and swim in the same water as these sharks if you dare.

If this sounds to exhausting then you can either relax on one of Ocho Rios finest beaches, with the glistening white sand between your toes. You can always walk and discover the coast of the Caribbean and even enjoy a jungle trail walk and take in the tropical wildlife and their truly stunning surroundings.

BOOKING
Booking is essential as the number of places for the dolphin and shark programs is limited and due to the popularity of each package, you can go and hope for the best but I would highly recommend you book beforehand.
If you are visiting Jamaica via cruise ship you will be able to get all of the information needed from the tour guides on board the cruise ship. It is best to book in this situation so you can arrange transport to and from the ship.
WHAT YOU NEED TO TAKE
To take part in this wonderful day out you will need towels and money for food, souvenirs, videos and pictures of your dolphin or shark program. Cameras or video cams are allowed at Dolphin Cove Treasure Reef, but not in the dolphin area or while participating in a Dolphin programs as this distracts the dolphins. Videos or photos of your dolphin experience are available at an extra cost.
GIFTS AND REFRESHMENTS
Dolphin Cove at Treasure Reef is known for shopping you can purchase hand crafted carvings, souvenirs and jewellery at one of the gift shops, you can even get your hair braided
There is a beach grill where you can buy lunch, you have a choice of chicken jerky, hamburger, hotdogs, chips, cheese sticks and a few others. Although the choice is very limited is really does taste good.
If you fancy a full meal you can enjoy a Jamaican buffet lunch, which will exotic fruits and foods related to Jamaica, personally I feel that you are paying expensive prices as you are overlooking the Caribbean ocean and tropical rain forest.
For those of us that like a little drink there is a fully licensed bar where you can enjoy the local beers, fruit juices and cocktails.
PRICES
These do vary dramatically during the year, so you will expect to pay a lot more for packages during the high seasons. If this is something you would like to do I would recommend you shop around the internet for prices, as some of these tour companies are rather expensive.
Overall this was an unforgettable day that I will take to the grave; it was truly amazing so good in fact it is so hard to explain. Even if you don't go for one of the packages if is recommended that you visit as there is so much to do.
Advantages: EVERYTHING IN ONE AREA Disadvantages: CAN COST A SMALL FORTUNE!
I went ot dolphin cove in november whilst i was in jamaica on business and was glad i went as it was a really good day out and was a nice way to spend some time chilling out after i had been working!
I'll start with the prices and work my way along from there!
we paid just under £100 per person for the swim program which is the best one you can do as it involves the swim with the dolphins and the interaction with them where they do the foot push ... ...you need the swim with dolphin program!
we booked this before we travelled to jamaica as we heard that it would be difficult to get available once we were there as it's so popular - i would advise this also as when we were there we noticed that all the slots were full and the whole place was packed out all day.
we had not arranged a transfer pick up (which you can do if you like but not sure how much this costs) so we made our own way from ocho ...

Advantages: Excellent opportunity for those wild at heart/friendly helpful staff Disadvantages: Expensive, especially with the tantalising merchanise !
I have done the dolphin "swim" programme at Ocho Rios twice now, and had the time of my life on both occasions.
Previously, I had been to the man made resort in FL, where I swam along side one dolphin. It was lovely and alot of fun, but for those whole are looking for a real "experience" -Ocho rios is your place!
I am not even very comfortable in water out of my depth, but was absolutely determined to do this.
As it transpired, I was kept afloat ... ...(ie a kiss by the dolphin moment)-it can be, but is also left alone a bit for the traveler who wishes to go alone -- also, the staff are great at putting nervous people at ease -and at the end, you'll wonder why you were ever nervous at all!
Also added is a glass bottom boat ride, a jungle trail and the opportunity to swim with sharks and rays in the price of the "swim with" ticket, so even though it is expensive - you now get a lot for your money ...

Advantages: The country looks stunning Disadvantages: hassle, harassment, drug pushers for starters
Rios called DolphinCove, where for a price you can meet a dolphin, pay a bit more and you can get in the water, and pay a LOT more ($168) you can swim with them. This sounds good, but when you consided that I got to scuba dive with dolphins at Dolphin Reef in Eilat a couple of years ago for a fraction of that cost (current cost $56) you will understand why we didn't do it.
If travelling from Europe, wait until your return journey to buy duty free, as Montego Bay airport is really good value for money and cheaper than both Gatwick and the plane for duty free.
Jamaica was an experience, and I do not regret having gone, as I DID enjoy myself, but it was despite the hassle.
If you were considering going to OchoRios but wanted to stay outside the main town (which isn't up to much anyway) then the hotel we stayed in was really nice ...
