Victoria Beach and Golf Resort Dominican Republic

Advantages: Near the beach, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Poor management, insects in food, items stolen from rooms.

We stayed here in July 2008. The staff are lovely, friendly people who are over worked and underpaid. The bar and waiting staff are actually very clever people who speak many languages. They make most of their earnings from tips, so be generous (if you still want to go after reading this). Management, do not know the meaning of customer sevice and can be abrupt & rude to both employees and staff. The all inclusive wrist bands are very flimsy and if (or when rather) they fall off, there is a $20 USD replacement charge. Riu Bachata, Dominican republic

Advantages: Friendly staff, clean hotel, good choice of food and fantastic weather
Disadvantages: Locals take over the place at the weekend

Gran Ventana Beach Resort.

Advantages: Good service in the restaurants.
Disadvantages: No entertainment.

Over all our family holiday we had in the Dominican Republic was excellent and we really enjoyed it. The service in the restaurants was fantastic and the food at the hotel was good. However if you have got teenagers then there is nothing for them to do there during the day or at night. At night time the entertainment isn't very good, unless u enjoy drinking. Also the swim-up bar is adults only so children and teenagers can't get served. We had a ...

Review of Gran Ventana Beach Resort, Puerto Plata

Simply amazing place

Advantages: Clean, close to beach, plenty to do, kids club, staff very helpful and speak english
Disadvantages: 9 hour flight!

To start off this review i'd like to say a simple WOW! to this resort! I was lucky enough to go here for 2 weeks in July 2007, and what a 2 weeks that was! The main purpose of this holiday was for my girlfriends 21st birthday, I paid for the holiday as a treat for her and now she wants to go back! I booked the holiday with Eclipse Direct who are a branch of First Choice, and we had a delay at Gatwick on the way out there, but that was soon forgotton ...

They actually checked us in on the coach, as we were delayed in Gatwick, so when we got to the resort we could walk straight to our rooms and flake out if we wanted. Sun, sand, and sea - what more can you want?

Advantages: Entertainment, beach, freindly staff, EVERYTHING!!
Disadvantages: Beach sellers

The Dominican Republic has been a place I have wanted to visit for a long time, and when I finally went, I was not disappointed.
