Advantages: Shopping, other activities Disadvantages: Distance from one gate to another in some cases
Schipholairport in Amsterdam is truly an amazing airport.
I travel regularly with KLM and the three reasons why I do is firstly the airline is great, secondly because of their Frequent Flier Programme (Flying Dutchman) is probably the best in the world and thirdly because of the great pleasure I have of stopping over in Schipholairport.
This is one airport you wouldn’t mind being in if your flight was delayed.
I usually take the international flights to Africa or Asia and make sure that I get into Schipholairport at least two hours before my onward connecting flight, so that I have as much time as possible there.
Many may find this airport huge and confusing but to me everything is very simple and easy to understand and finding your gate is not at all difficult. The signs and directions are easy to understand but ...
Advantages: Convenient and predictable Disadvantages: Souless
Business trips can be tedious at the best of times but the tedium is exacerbated when overnight hotel accommodation offers little more than a bed for the night in a faceless establishment.
Unfortunately, the Hilton at Amsterdam's SchipholAirport is just one of those faceless hotels.

When one stays in chain hotels, particularly those aimed at the business community, one can often predict with hideous accuracy the standard ...
Advantages: Nice enough hotel, good for meetings Disadvantages: Keep in mind the time you need to transfer to the airport
and charge well over the odds for their proximity. And the third group - the Cinderellas of airporthotels - are the off-airporthotels, often offering cheap (or not so cheap) room and parking deals and far too often, not as close to the airport as you'd expect them to be.
Last week I needed a room for an overnight stop at Amsterdamairport and when the two hotels at the airport came back with ridiculous prices in the £250-350 per room range, our secretary put her foot down and booked me into the Mercure AmsterdamAirport at a price of Euro135 for the night. My first reaction was horror - but I calmed down once I realised I was confusing the Mercure with the Ibis (another in the Accor hotel chain) where I'd once spent a very noisy and uncomfortable night. Once I knew it wasn't the Ibis, I was fine and quite happy to save a load of money ...
