...There are two Sofitelhotels in Berlin, and this review is for the DorintSofitel Schweizerhof, not the DorintSofitel am Gendarmenmarkt. Both are part of the Accor hotel chain.
~~~ Location and Getting There ~~~
The Schweizerhof can be found on Budapester Straße. It is extremely well located, being between the Tiergarten (south-west corner of the park), the zoo and aquarium, the Europa Centre and the shops on Kurfurstendamm. The nearest station is Zoologischer Garten (800m distance), or it is an easy cab ride from Tegel Airport (8km) or Tempelhof Airport (10km). There is a bus stop right outside the hotel for route 200, with other routes nearby. There are usually cabs waiting outside the hotel and there is a car park under the hotel (which isn't too cheap - about €18 per day).
...Trusting the Sofitel name, we booked and pre paid for 7 nights at the Sofitel Capsis Rhodes.
Upon arrival, we found that we had to make our own way to the room, bags in tow. When we entered the room we were surprised at how small it was. We are a family of four, (2 adults and 2 kids). The room consisted of 1 double sized bed (not even a queen), 1 single bed, and 1 fold away bed. There was literally no room to move. The room also contained a 12 inch TV.
Being such a big hotel (691 rooms), the dining room was very noisy. The food was pretty average.
The prices within the hotel are exorbitantly expensive. For example, at the pool bar, a take away instant coffee, served in a small, disposable, plastic cup, cost 3.80 euros. No wonder nobody around the pool seemed to be drinking anything.
The mini club they advertise on their web site, doesn...
Advantages: Clean, Helpful Staff, More facilities than you know what to do with Disadvantages: A bit pricy a dn not an everyday stopover
...I recently had the pleasure to stay at this fine establishment during two 3-day trips to Amsterdam, in the NEtherlands. I choose it for it's facilities, and also it's closeness to Schiphol Airport.
When you first look at the hotel on the net or in a magazine, it looks wonderful - not in the sunny beaches and tropical palm treese sense, but in the calm, relaxing, multi-facility sense, and I have to say it lives up to that image perfectly. Being partially sighted myself, things such as the provision of lifts, good lighting and helpful staff were important to me, and these are the sorts of things I'll focus on in this summary.
The hotel is located, as said before close to Schiphol International Airport. In fact you can see the aircraft arriving and departing from runway 19R from that side of the hotel. The hotel is a multi...
Where do I begin?
Following a drive of nearly 5 hours across the Atlas mountains from Agadir - don't ask - we were told it was an hour and a half and flying to Agadir saved hundreds of pounds on the holiday - any flea pit would have been welcome.
