Advantages: Relaxing. Much of interest. Disadvantages: Pigeons do cause a bit of mess
...Trafalgar Square is full of London's history and some oddities. The Square was laid out in the 1840s to commemorate the great sea victory, and the centrepiece is Nelson's Column, on top of which the man himself gazes southwards towards the battle scene far away. (Hitler was so impressed, he had intended to move Nelson and the four lions to Berlin after the invasion of Britain). Other attractions include: the standard measure in the north part, where all the world's metric measurements are taken from; the smallest police station in the country, (a little box); the empty plinth, with a variety of monuments at time of writing; the fountains, the statues, and the lions, and of course the pigeons. Buy some pigeon feed and see if you can get a photo of yourself with a pigeon sat on your shoulder. Best of all, if the weather's fine, you can...

Advantages: Great meeting point. Impressive statue Disadvantages: Can get very crowded
...I nearly always make a visit to Trafalgar Square when I am in London. It is very central and most days thousands of people are there. In some respects it is a great nodal point and it is impressive and there is the statue of one of Britain's great heroes Admiral Nelson to gaze at. The square also attract thousands of pigeons and it is quite a nice pastime to sit and feed them crumbs from your sandwiches. A lot of foreign tourists congregate in Trafalgar Square and if you spend an hour or two there you will certainly see a wide cross section of humanity. Another nice thing is that you see all age groups in Trafalgar Square. Nearby are some fine attractions such as the National Portrait Gallery, St Martins in the Fields and you are only a stones throw away from Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall....

Advantages: A little oasis of calm Disadvantages: Surrounded by thunderous traffic
...Not much to do here except watch the world go by. A pleasant enough little square near the centre of town, close to the British Museum. On one side is the rather dilaphidated but still rather splendid hotel Russell, on the other the fine and less cluttered lines of the University of London's Senate House.
You can buy an ice cream from the small cafe, sit and relax your feet that have been pounding the tourist sites. Look remotely like a local and you will be asked where the British Museum is every three minutes by passing tourists.
Not recommended after dark unless you are looking for a brief encounter with someone who is not of the contradictory and opposite gender.
A little oasis of calm, though surrounded by thunderous traffic....
