Location Dover Leisure Centre is located on Townwall Street in Dover which is pretty much on the seafront and within walking distance to the Port of Dover. It is also within walking distance of Dover town, Dover Priory Station and Pencester bus station.
Facilities There are two swimming pools at Dover Leisure Centre. There is a main swimming pool which is 25 metres and also a learner / childrens pool. In the main pool, there are two lanes of the swimming pool which are sectioned off to create one slow, and one fast swimming lane. The rest of the pool is then literally just open water where people can swim at their own leisure.
The smaller pool is much warmer than the large pool and is really designed for children and people learning to swim. At the side of the pool, there are boxes of swimming aids such as floats and armbands for visitors to use.
There are swimming programmes such as exercise classes and swimming lessons which are held at various times during the day and evening. Details of these classes are normally found on leaflets that are in the main reception.
There is a lifeguard on duty at all times in both of the pool areas. I have been swimming here on many occasions and have always found the pool to be clean. There are three sets of changing rooms male, female and family. Once you pay, you enter the changing rooms, and then leave through the other side of them into the pool.
The Gym The Gym is fairly large and covers two floors. The top floor holds all the machines such as the treadmill, x trainers and step machines, and the bottom floor holds all the weight. The equipment is up to date and clean. The gym is fully air conditioned and has Sky TV which usually plays the music channels. I did have a Gym membership here but found that I didnt use it enough and therefore cancelled it. In my time as a member of this Gym, I found it to be very welcoming, with very friendly staff. As a member, you can get a personalised exercise programme after speaking to the members of staff and informing them of what you intend to achieve by using the Gym. The gym is open to members as well as non members.
Viewing Area / Exercise Hall There is a viewing area where non swimmers can view the swimming pools. Alongside the main pool there are rows of seats so there is plenty of room for lots of spectators.
Just along from the viewing area, there is an Exercise Hall where various exercise classes are held. Again, the details for these classes are normally found on leaflets at reception or you can download them from the Leisure Centre website.
Main Hall The leisure centre has a large sports hall which is divided into half so you can hold separate events. Many sporting classes / events are held here such as football matches, badminton, basketball and many more. During the Summer, the leisure centre holds a Play Scheme where children can learn sports during the summer holidays.
Squash Courts There are 3 squash courts which can be hired out.
Café The café has recently been refurbished so it has a very modern feel to it. The café serves hot and cold drinks and also snacks. The bar has Sky TV and shows many of the sporting events such as football matches on a large screen.
