Dover is not the place to spend a two week summer holiday however if you are travelling in or out of Europe and need a stop-over destination then it offers all you need. A good range of Hotels and B&B exist for the short stay visitor. I found the local travel office, situated close to the port very helpful. The local Pubs and Inns offer bar meals and some have restaurants catering for all ages. The food prices vary so it's worth checking out a few before making your choice. Sightseeing is fairly limited, but Dover Castle is worth a visit.

Advantages: wonderful countryside almost in town; castle; compact centre Disadvantages: disappointing architecture; shopping not great; not so easy to get to by public transport
