In the main house there are 50 rooms including eight beautifully decorated bedrooms with stunning views over the garden and woodlands, including two poster bedrooms, four poster bedrooms and junior suites with balconies. The west wing offers 50 spacious bedrooms decorated to a very high standard. All the rooms have twin or double beds with bathroom telephones, cable television, Internet connections and views over the grounds. The sumptuous surroundings of the main lounge with its fine furnishings, antiques, brilliant chandeliers and exquisite tapestries offer a warm ambience in which to relax. DownHallCountryHouseHotel is situated in Hatfield Heath in Hertfordshire. I have stayed here on three occasions, most recently last weekend to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The time before that was three years ago when I spent my final night in the UK here before moving to Bermuda for two years.
Reservation and prices
I did not see any discount rates available through the intermediaries I sometimes use, like laterooms.com, so I booked directly with the hotel via their website about six weeks in advance. Or at least I thought I did. A couple of days before our anniversary, I could not find a confirmation of booking and realised that I did not remember seeing one ever. I called the hotel and they had no trace of me, they told me they had room but the dinner, bed and breakfast rate for two was now £215 whereas I had ...

My partner, daughter and I stayed at this hotel a couple of times when we go and visit the family up there.
From the outside the hotel looked beautiful and clean and looked really big, as soon as i stepped in the doors i was weary but the staff are all nice and always had a smile on their faces.
The hotel could do with a bit of a lift inside, the rooms wasn't as big as expected from the outside but was well furnished with all your little pieces ( trouser press, tea/coffee etc)
The restaurant was nice with all your traditional food, the waiters and waitresses all know what they are doing and don't mess around, there was one complaint on the next table about a steak wasn't cooked right and the waiter offered to change it straight away, The waiter then came back out and said the steak was all from the same bit lot and it will ...

There is wireless internet access in the hotel but we didn?t use it as it was £6.50 per hour (or £15 for 12 hours) so for how long we were staying we didn?t think it was worth it even though I had my laptop with me. There are also 2 computers with internet access in the reception area and this starts from £3 for 15 minutes.
The hotel seems to be a popular location for weddings as we saw 4 wedding parties in the 3 days we were there. I can see why though, as the hotel is set in beautiful grounds.
Overall
I thought this was a lovely hotel but we found that it is not as good as the Marriott?s outside of the UK. However, I would definitely still recommend this hotel as we all had a pleasant stay.
