Downtown Los Angeles

Advantages: Varieties of ethnics, food, goods
Disadvantages: Dirty

In downtown Los Angeles, you will find the Toy District, the Fashion District and the Jewelry District, the Flower District. Olveria Street, Chinatown, Korean town and Little Tokyo are in this district too.

There are many wholesalers selling toys, watches, jewelry, carpets, eyeglasses, bags....You have to buy in bulk or else it is expensive. It is an international district because the business owners are from every corners of the ...
...the parking meters. Parking in downtown is extremely expensive, especially near the newly opened Music Center or BonaVenture Hotel. It can be as expensive as around $20 per day. The downtown library is worth visiting too. If you get a library card, then you can enjoy cheap parking in the structure. Be aware of the traffic. There are many one way streets and there are restrictions on times you can make turns or not. It is jam packed during weekends ... more

The best hotel we have stayed at in six years

Advantages: Close to Downtown Convention Centres
Disadvantages: None

We have been going to Los Angeles for the past six years,in early January. This year was our sixth different hotel, but from now on it will be The Quality Inn & Suites at west olympic. The hotel is situated at the back of the convention centres, and close to Downtown LA. I am disabled and needed to be close to the transport route.A bus stop just outside the hotel, and the Metro underground is just a stonesthrow from the hotel, with Macarthur`s park across the road. The hotel is of great quality. The staff cannot do enough for you. toiletries supplied for your stay, coffee and tea facilitiesin your room, aswell as the daily paper all in with the cost.Unlike other hotels in America,a deluxe breakfast is in the downstairs dining room. The breakfast is a choice of four different cereals, toast, with jam,and tea, coffee, milk and fresh fruit. There is ...

Review of Quality Inn & Suites Downtown, Los Angeles

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Advantages: Elegant & Fantastic Design!
Disadvantages: Parking is Expensive!

This is a newly built landmark in the downtown of Los Angeles. It is designed by the world famous architect Frank Gehry. This building is funded by Lillian Disney in memory of her late husband Walt Disney for his passion in music. I visited this place last week. I was overwhemed by the appearance of the building. It is stainless steel free form shapes like the Bilbao museum in Spain, Frank Gehry's most famous piece of art. I highly recommend the audio tour to visitors. In the beginning, I was reluctant to use such a strange device. The content is about the design strategy of the music hall, interviews with the engineers, the story behind the building, materials, and all sorts of interesting information. The host, actor John Lithgow, step by step, guided you to every corners of the structure. He has a friendly voice and the way he ...

Universal Studios

Advantages: you can do it in a day
Disadvantages: expensive theme park food and drink

First of all only buy passes if u intend to go to Seaworld otherwise it is just not worth it. Staying in a hotel there are plenty of money off flyers to be had. With the subway linking Universal Studios with Downtown Los Angeles this should help those who want to avoid being ripped off by the tours. Universal Studios opens at 9am. The maps are quite simple to understand. As soon as you head towards the rides you will be asked for your picture to be taken and of course will have to pay the obligatory dollars for it later. We found that the Jurassic Park ride did not open until 10 am so we headed for Back to the Future first. Do not look right when you are in the Back To The Future vehicle as you will see the other vehicles as this will ruin the whole effect.By the time we completed that and walked down it was 10am and there was ...
