I got a last minute deal last year - I got 2 weeks in a 2* hotel in , half board for only £299. However, I was very disappointed when I found out, on arrival, that our hotel was in a resort on the other side of the Island to Magaluf/Palma. It was called Portocristo
and was the home of the famous "cuvas del drach" - dragon caves, known for its superb stalagmites. Whilst the cuevas were enchantng, there was very little else to do in the resort - a few run down clubs, mediocre restaurants and a wimpy just down the road from our hotel were the only sources of entertainment if one was to avoid the temptation of spending time in the local "english pub" which boasted 2 karaoke noghts a week. The beach was also very unimpressive so we decided to take a bus to the next resort. Bus tickets were reasonable, and well worth the money - we ended up in Cala Millor - a much better resort with fabulous beaches, a few lively bars and clubs and plenty of young people. We spent the rest of our holiday there, going back to our hotel to change, eat and sleep. Our hotel was basic, but clean and the food was O.K. Having discovered Cala Millor, and some friend who drove with us to Magaluf for one evening, we ended up having a fantastic holiday. Had we not been so determined, we may have wasted 300 nicker each!
