The home of Kings!
Review of Residenzschloss by mr_christa

Advantages: Beautiful architecture
Disadvantages: Unfinished

...What now exists of the Residenzschloss is meagre in comparison to what must have been there. The ruins, which they hope to finally restore in the the 2020's stretch from the Frauenkirche to the banks of the Elbe. About 30-40% of the original has now been expertly restored and is in my opinion one of the best feats of restoration considering how underfunded and how little priority was given to the Residenzschloss. Most of the eastern wing of the ...
...to be restored to it's former oppulence, there are numerous excellent exhibits to view. The entrance fee is about 3 Euros and is worthwhile as this includes admission to the restored catsle tower which, in my opinion offers the best views of Dresden. From here you can really appreciate the damage that was done on February 13th 1945 and also the work that has gone into restoring Dresden since then. Below the tower is a collection of masterpieces that ... Read review

Fürstenzug
Review of Fuerstenzug by mr_christa

Advantages: Fine craftsmanship, free
Disadvantages: Can be a bit crowded in the Summer

The Fürstenzug is one of Dresden's most underrated attractions. Nestled behind the Brühlische Terasse and overshadowed by the imposing reconstruction of the Frauenkirche, it is very hard to miss. However, in my opinion it is one of the best tourist attractions in Dresden. The Fürstenzug is a six metre high frieze, which depicts the rulers of Saxony from 1123 to 1918 in fantastic Meissen porcelain tiles. Originally commissioned by Augustus the Strong ...
...and the process only stopped after the abolition of the German monarchies after the defeat in World War One. Like all of the attractions in Dresden this was totally destroyed during the bombing of World War Two. However, it has been lovingly recreated by a team of archaeologists from Berlin University. Many of the original tiles were found it the wreckage after the war and were put into storage. After the reunification of Germany a team started ... Read review

Moritzburg
Review of Jadgschloss Moritzburg by mr_christa

Advantages: Beautiful
Disadvantages: Not central

I spent last year in Germany and was in Leipzig very close to Dresden. My German friends, who were also residents of Dresden, would frequently mention Moritzburg as the perfect place to end any visit to Dresden. After many visits to Dresen this wisdom suddenly returned to me when I was taking a visiting parties ofd relatives to Dresden for the fourth or fifth time. We had exhausted most of the usual tourist haunts of Dresden and this particularly ...
...So we jumped on the train from Dresden Hauptbahnhof and headed off on the fifteen minute ride to Moritzburg. The return fair from Dresden to Moritzburg was about five Euros. (I subsequently found out that you can also get there by bus from the Marktplatz for about four Euros return, but it takes about half an hour.) When we got there I could immediately see what my German friends had meant. Moritzburg was one of the most picturesque places I visited ... Read review
