Advantages: A lot to see & do, has something to offer for everyone Disadvantages: Too much to see and do, can be exhausting, expensive hotels
...of feels like you are going back to a place you have been to before. When I was young I remember seeing TV shows about how kids grew up in NYC and it felt very distant from my own upbringing. I also remember seeing movies like "The Warriors" and of course I wondered if this gave a true impression of the city. Well, as I have gotten older I have of course come to learn and understand that there are a lot more to NYC than the negative things the press often focus on.
Finding a hotel in New YorkNew York is obviously a huge city so hotels come in all price categories (but mainly in the upper ones :-) and are spread all over the city. So we had to decide which price class to go for and which area to stay in. We looked into quite a lot of different hotels and guesthouses but in the end we booked a room at Hotel Thirty Thirty. This hotel might...

...it a hesitant recommendation. It cost £16 a night, inc a basic breakfast, which is a bargin for NY. I was in a dorm room, and the other people were really friendly, and from all over the world, as you'd expect. On the down side, there were two possible heat settings in the room: freezing, or boiling. (New Yorkers believe in having their heating on FULL BLAST) and the heating system was really noisy and clanky. There were also plastic sheets on the beds, so I had a very sweaty sticky couple of nights. Not so pleasant!
Activities
New york is absolutly bursting with things to do, and in my 3 days I couldn't begin to do them all, but I think I am safe in saying that whatever your tastes and hobbies you'll find something to do in NewYork.
Sightseeing.

...there and getting around, eating and drinking and my recommendations on what to do both during the daytime and the evening.
GETTING THERE AND GETTING AROUND
You can’t go far wrong with at flight to NewYork. It’s only a 7 hour flight, and whichever airline you go with, the economy class flight is pretty standard. You’ll be crammed in like sardines, and you can guarantee the person in the next seat to you will either snore like an express train or have terrible body odour. However, there are one or two things you can do to minimise the discomfort. For instance, I find virgin one of the more bearable airlines. You still don’t get masses of leg room, but they do give you a little bag of goodies that keeps you occupied for a few minutes, and the food’s pretty good too. You could also try asking for a bit more leg room. Sometimes if you’re really lucky...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
