When my wife was offered a job in Inverness the company offered the whole family a weekend trip for the second interview.

So my wife, 8 month daughter and I drove from just outside Edinburgh up to Inverness. When approaching Inverness from the South, on the A9 the hotel is perfectly signposted and cannot be missed.

As you drive into the car park you would be forgiven for thinking that the hotel itself does not look anything special. Trust me when I say that it is the outside, and outside of the building only, that will make you think this.

We had booked over the phone and when we went to check in something had gone wrong and there was no record of our booking, the start of a bad experience you might think. No, the staff dealt with it, without any fuss or hassle. Another room was booked, we sat and waited in the beautiful lounge area as it was cleaned. Sitting in the huge comfy sofas, drinking a gin and tonic leaves you with no choice other than to relax.

Once the room was finished we made our way up stairs and found the first signs that the hotel was perfect for us. The travel cot we had requested was made up and waiting in the corner of the room, along with a chilled bottle of wine and a selection of hand made chocolates. I must add that these were all part of the special offer they had on at the time of our booking. What we had not expected was the decanter of whisky and the size and quality of the room.

The weekend offer we had booked also included dinner on both nights. After our first night, I spent the whole of the next day waiting for the dinner. It was lovely. When you first go downstairs you have a drink in the lounge area whilst you look over the menu and nibble on a selection of appetisers. The three course meal that follows is stunning, the little pre starter and pre dessert only help make you feel blissfully happy.

What you have to bear in mind is that we did all of this with an 8 month old baby. She cried at times, wanted to play at others, but the staff were fantastic with her and made us feel very welcome. At one point I left to go for a walk with her to try and help her fall asleep. When I returned my meal had gone. They had taken it away to keep hot and returned it the minute I sat down. The whole time we were in the hotel the staff go out of their way to make you feel like you are their only concern.

I have stayed in some beautiful hotels that look visually amazing both outside and in, I've stayed in some which cost a small fortune for one night, but if I had to pick one that I would love to visit again it would be the Drumossie in Inverness. I now live in Inverness, in fact only a 5 minute drive away from the hotel, but given the choice I would love a weekend staying at the hotel. Only this time we will invite the grandparents up and let them look after the little one during the night.

This is a lovely hotel that should not fail to make any trip to Inverness more of a success.
