You are guided through the building and given a very interesting tour. There are numerous different interesting features to be seen such as the family crests of all of Irelands Presidents and the stained glass window which is dedicated to the 1916 rebels who were shot at Kilmainhaim goal.. This is a beautiful building with a vast history surrounding it.
Advantages: History melds with modern-day use Disadvantages: None at all
Dublin Castle is a historic gem which has the added advantage of being used for modern government ,in a town renowned for appreciating its diverse and interesting history.
A visit to Dublin Castle is enhanced by the energetic and enthusiastic tour guides. You wait in a reception room, for the appointed time, and then a guide joins you for a very professional group tour to share a look back in time, with a difference.
What sets Dublin Castle apart ... ...A highlight at Dublin Castle is the State Apartments, on the South side of the Great Courtyard; a close second is the Chapel Royal (1814), the King's Chapel is absolutely fabulous - I loved the vaulting and carved oaks - don't forget to look up when you get in here, it's memorable. Visit the 1883 Coach House where once you would have seen the Viceroy's Coach and all the horses but nowadays you're more likely to attend a conference, dine or enjoy ...

...this building is in centre; Dublin and is only a short walking distance from all the main locations of the city.
Dublin Castle has played a pivotal role in Irish history and government for over a millennium. In the 9th century the Vikings established a hill fort on the site. It was replaced with a Norman castle in 1204. All that now remains of the 13th century castle is the Record Tower. In the 16th century Thomas Fitzgerald, son of the Earl of ... ...escaped twice from the Record tower. In more recent centuries the castle developed into something of a palace for viceroys and visiting English monarchs, but continued to be both the seat and the symbol of British rule in Ireland until 1922. Above the entrance archway stands the statue of justice - "with its face to the castle and its back to the nation," as Dubliners were fond of saying in the days of British rule.

Jury's Christchurch Inn in Dublin is ideally situated opposite the Christchurch cathedral in the city, a short walk from Dublincastle and the main streets in Dublin where you will find the majority of the bars and restuarants.
The hotel can be reached easily from Dublin's airport, using either a taxi (around £20) or the special Airlink bus service that operates frequently between Dublin's airport and the river.
The hotel is fairly modern, and the rooms though not luxurious, do offer a good standard of accomodation, with full en-suite facilities, orthapedic beds and satellite television facilities.
The hotel is a family hotel and does allow kids to stay - this may be a problem for some, as the last thing you want on your romantic break away is a load of screming kids in the hotel foyer - especially if they are someone else ...

INTRODUCTION
My wife and I kept sightseeing in Dublin to a minimum. You can spend too much time looking at the main sights of a city and not mix enough with the local folk.
We could have visited DublinCastle, Dublin Zoo, the Wax Museum or the Dublin Writers Museum. But we plumped for a tour of the Guinness Storehouse.
We declined to visit the Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam and the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen. So this was third time lucky.
I hold a few shares in Diageo, which owns Guinness. So it was nice as a shareholder to visit the premises.
A hotel receptionist told me that some Irish men drank 20 pints of Guinness per night. This must increase the turnover of Diageo considerably.
HOW WE GOT THERE
There was a hop-on and hop-off tourist bus, which started from O’Connell Street.
We got tickets from ...
