The Ardmore Hotel, Dublin
Advantages: Bargain price. Disadvantages: Slightly too far from town if you're interested in a long term stay.
...the terrible reviews for the Ardmore hotel i was really rather skeptical about staying there.
I booked for two nights on the 8th july for me and my girlfriend and i was on edge throughout the whole journey because of the reviews that i had read.
However, the journey from the airport was a rapid one and one that didn't break the bank! We were welcomed to the hotel with a smile, the only problem with checking in was that we had to wait until 12 to ... ...This was understandable though and couldn't be helped.
Although the hotel is situated 2.5 miles from th city centre it really isnt that far. It is a pleasant walk through a few towns (if youve got the time that is) and we enjoyed it a lot.
Alternatively you could catch the bus...this was an experience for us. I warn you that Irish buses require the exact fee for the journey (to the city centre it is €1.70 per person to the city centre).
The bedroom ...

Strange room numbers !!!
Advantages: great location, not far to main shopping area Disadvantages: noisy at night, strange room numbering
I booked this hotel through an agent (just the hotel, travelcare if memory serves.) a group of us went there last year and the hotel was great, except for a couple of niggley things. first one being the strange way the rooms are numbered! you'd have like room 12 then something like room 237 next to it on the same floor! it took us a while to work out. no porter service it seemed, to help show you to your room, the elevator was tiny (2 people and ... ...take linen up and down in, but the rooms were ok, and quite roomy, en-suite too. the downstairs bar was excellent and full of characters up for the craic, but very noisy later on (till about 4am) if you are at the back of the hotel. we checked the room prices and it worked out a lot cheaper to book through the travel agent, than just turning up for a room. so overall it's good if you get a room at the front of the hotel and only a couple of floors ...

Trinity Capital
Advantages: Quirky, friendly, location. Disadvantages: next door to fire station
This hotel was absolutely fab!! The decor was quirky, it was in a great location and would definitely stay again.
Food - Breakfast good, full english including black and white pudding. Not a huge choice of cereals or pastries but enough to satisfy.
Service - All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Bedrooms - Standard double was of an ok size. Bed was big and comfortable. Very clean, maids came in daily to tidy, change towels and sheets. ... ...other hotels I have stayed in).
Location - In the centre of Dublin close enought to walk to Grafton street and Temple Bar but far away enough to not hear the noise!! There is a fire station next door but you don't really hear much from this. There are a couple of local pubs on the next road to the hotel that are worth a visit. Spar located just 1 min walk from hotel.
Bar/Restaurant - Lovely furniture and terraces to sit in peace and privacy.
Overall ...

grafton capital hotel
Advantages: can easily walk to nearby bars, restaurants. Disadvantages: nothing significant
I have recently stayed here and i have to say that it was very enjoyable.
It is quite central and myself and two friends could easily walk to the local bars and restaurants. The rooms were very clean and well designed. I stayed in a room by myself with a double bed. It had the usual appliances ( tv, iron, telephone, hairdryer, kettle) that all worked fine. The bathroom was kept clean and the shower was powerful enough. The staff were friendly and ...

Two star hotel with one star service
Advantages: Location, decor Disadvantages: Lights not working, no plugs for sink or bath, grumpy staff, noisy, poor food
...appeal.
I eventually found the Harcourt Hotel on Harcourt Street well below budget at around £53.00 a night (depending on exchange rate). This was located close to the main shopping area of Dublin (handy at Christmas) & walking distance to a huge selection of restaurants.
I arrived at the hotel at 6.45pm & was impressed with the reception lobby; it must have dated form the early 20th century with period furniture, lighting & the general décor. ... ...especially at this price!!
I was very quickly 'checked in' & asked the lady for directions to my room, she said 'go out the door you came in, turn right, walk down the street, past a shop & look out for two plant pots outside a door, your room is through the door'. I was rather taking aback, but followed her instructions, entered the door at the bottom of the street to find signs all over the lobby walls with room numbers & arrows. After a tense ...
