As far as European Cities go it is hard to beat Dublin. On the other hand, If you are looking for the 'real' Ireland you would probably do well to avoid Dublin altogether. The city is teaming with things to do and steeped in history and culture. You can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping areas around Grafton Street, the lively and vibrant Temple Bar area (which is the place to go if you want a drink), the tranquility of Stephens Green (the largest enclosed city park in Europe), and the numourous attractions such as Dublin Castle and Kilmainham Gaol. A typical walk will take you from the garden of remembrance at the top of O'Connell Street, past the GPO where the Easter Rising took place in 1916, down past the statue of Daniel O'Connell and across the River Liffey. Next you will pass the impressive Bank of Ireland building and the world famous Trinity College. You will pass by the Statue of Molly Malone before entering Grafton street, famous the world over for its range of shops. Emerging from Grafton Street you can then take a stroll through Stephens Green before wandering round passed the Irish parliament and the Museum of Ireland. These are only a few of the attractions, which are too numerous to mention, and this walk will only take about 40 minutes at a slowish pace. If you are looking for a weekend getaway you should consider Dublin, you won't find a more interesting city in the whole of Europe.
