It is with a heavy heart and sadness in my mind as I write my first article about the city I once loved. I have seen the gradual decline in Dublin over the past decade - what was once a vibrant, yet friendly corner of my home country, has, I regret to say, sank to similar depths as most other major cities in the World.
No longer am I confident to walk the streets, carrying my trusty guitar on my back - the days are gone when I could literally sing for my supper. I feel a part of my life has been forever torn away and I am sad to say, that I have no desire to return.
I was once advised that London is one of the most expensive cities in the World and who am I to doubt the people who told me. Regretfully, Dublin is not too far behind and sadly, commercialism now has its firm grip and is unlikely to let go. By all means visit Dublin, there are still some places that are not so eager to part you from your hard earned money - though you may have to look hard.
Hi and welcome to Ciao. An obviously heartfelt statement about Dublin but it didn't tell me much other than your feeling that it had declined. You said that there were still some good things, what are they? What do you most miss? I've not been in Dublin for about 2 years but the main trend that I observed in my visits in the previous ten years was the gradual loss of individuality. As you say, Dublin is, in many ways, just one more world city. Sorry to only rate your opinion Fairly Helpful, I would have liked to rate you more highly because I enjoyed your writing style but there just wasn't enough content. I look forward to reading more from you. Paul.

Advantages: pubs and bars stay open late and plenty of choice, can walk everwhere. Disadvantages: very cold in winter, not much to do beyond the drinking
