Every New Years eve i throw a party for all the family and close friends.
We fill the table up with buttys and make sure the patio is full of beer and wine, keeping chilled as there is no room in the fridge. Afetr about 23.00, everyone is getting in the party mood and i start my party piece...i play the DJ..as i have been bang into my music since i was 4.
Nothing gets the party started more than a few of the oldies...you know...a bit of Frank and Deano, and then by around the 1.30 mark everyone is hooked on my Irish section....if you dont start dancing to The Irish Rover....your probably dead. And i always stick good old Molly Malone on as well.....you must know the track...it starts off...In Dublin Fair City...

It was no wonder that for my 20th wedding anaversery last May, i invited two friends of ours to share it with us and make a week-end of it. So...we booked for a two night stay in Dublin

Got the flight from Blackpool for about £20.00 each and booked into the Temple Bar hotel on Temple Bar (which is a well known, popular Dublin area)

Heard a lot about the place, but to be honest on the way from the airport, it didnt quite do anything for me. The cab driver took us down O,Conell St and we had a bit of a tour and still, just didnt click.

The hotel was really nice and had all the amenities you could want for a couple of nights away with friends, hot water, clean rooms, fresh towels. Tea making facilities ect.

We went straight out of the hotel in the mid afternoon afetr dropping off our bags and hit the pubs. The girls had a glass of wine, and me and my mate had...well...you wont believe it...but we had a Guinness.
And then we had some more of the black stuff and we were well on our way to a good old celebration after a couple of hours, but still didnt see what everyone ranted and raved about.

Anyway, we walked out of one pub and into another and waited whilst our Guiness was ready as the bar staff usually pour it a bit at a time untill it is perfect. After leaving the pub, and still thinking that this was like any other city, i looked down the road toward Grafton St and could see the back of a statue in bronze. Had no idea who the statue was of, but who cares, we could have our photo took by it anyway. It wasnt untill i got up to it, it twigged who it was.....

OH-MY-GOD...it was Molly Malone...and it hit me like a bolt of lightning........I was in Dublin. All the irish bars i had been to in Blackpool, and all the irish music i had played at partys finaly made so much sence....I was in Dublin fair city...Let the party begin.

If you are one for the odd tipple at crimbo and think two glasses is enough for anyone....Stay at home with your Horlicks, because this is the party city. Night club junk and Techno dont exist...this is the city where the fiddle is all you need to waken the dead.

Every bar is alive with the sound of Dublin and there is an old Dubliner singing in most of them. The city does tend to sleep, but only for a couple of hours, and that starts about 07.00. If you decide to stay on the Temple Bar like we did, expect to hear party goers singing right the way through the night.

People will tell you its expensive to drink and eat there...well...it is more than you pay at home, but its marginal. A pint of the balck stuff, and i did 30 over the two nights and three days, is around £3.50 a pint as opposed to £2.50 back home, so in all i spent an extra £30.00....well worth it and i would do it all over again.

We ate at a chinese, just off Temple Bar and it was around the same as a restraunt back home, about £25.00 per head. The Hotel was reasonable, i think it was around the £220.00 for the two nights, for me and the missus, B&B. In all i spent £550.00, and that was the total cost, Flights, Hotel, Food, Taxis and Drink.

The place is buzzing, as is every bar you walk into with an Irish group in the corner adding to the whole ambience.

There is a great shopping centre and i dare say you can get anything you want here, but to be honest, we sent the girls off to look round Penny's and the other shops, as......well.......me and my mate was stuck in "O Donahughes" having a few Guinness's and listening to the local lads version of "The Wild Rover" ( A fantastic statue of Phil Lynot outside by the way)

What can i say...If you are one for a few shreberts and a party, dont need much sleep, and love the Irish Music.....Get your ass over to Dublin, and maybe you can apolagise for me being so drunk over there.

Am i hooked on Dublin?,,,,,,,,,,,I Am Indeed
