I visited Dublin a few weeks ago, for three nights.
I decided to visit with my girl friend and used ryanair.com. Very good prices and booked accomodation through them too.
On arriving at the airport, you immadiately feel like you are in a foriegn country, even though it looks the same as the UK, lol.
We were lucky to have stayed in the city centre. Everything was within walking distance of our hotel. There are many hundreds of different bars and pubs to visit and drink in.
Unfortunately there isn't much else other than drinking establishments. However, you will find plenty of shops, but like most cities, expect to pay over the odds for clothes etc.
Unfortunately, I am not much of a drinker nor am I the type to buy expensive clothes. However, the one thing that I thoroughly enjoyed was the musical pub crawl. You would be taken by some musicians to various different pubs and be sung to while you sample different beverages. There is also a poetry version too, although I didn't have time to experience that.
I would some up Dublin as very cosmopolitan. Dublin is very much like any other city and doesn't really reflect true Ireland.
It's an ideal location for stag or hen night's or maybe short breaks away for young couples. But if you're looking for a culture experience, or lots of sights to visit, I really wouldn't recommend Dublin at all.

Shame you didn't find much to do - Dublin has great literary and historic sites. Perhaps you'll discover them one day.

Sorry for the "FH" rating......But you must be joking.....Sure there are plenty of bars, but Dublin has so much culture and attractions it's oozing out every pore of the place...... get yourself a good guide book if you come over again......Ken (the mad "Dublin" cabbie)

Actually, Dublin is Nothing like Jersey. What most young trippers seem to do is to tour the pubs and clubs, of which are plenty in Dublin.
Leave the drink until eventide and use the day to visit the Castle, Mansion House, the Bank of Ireland, the Casino, City Hall, Customs House, Law Courts, The Post Office, Kilmainham Jail, world famous Trinity College oh yes the Viking excavation and Guiness Brewery.
Then you get The Parks (and not just the magnificent Phoenix Park with its Racecourse) All forms of Sport at top level as well as Bowling, Golf, Angling, Greyhound racing.10 pin, Yachting, Theatres.
But most importantly, the people and their history. I do go one a bit, don't I. I'm lucky to have managed more than just a weekend break there.
