Manufacturer's product description
Established since 1906 in an old street near the cathedral, this wood-beamed, stone-walled restaurant is a local institution. Character is here a-plenty -- model ships sway overhead, a variety of quirky brass lamps bedeck the walls, the city's steepest, narrowest staircase leads up to the restrooms, and over-dressed bourgeois(es) arrive early to claim the best tables (in the corner beneath the large, pastel-paned windows). But it's the cuisine that keeps them coming back. Fish is a specialty -- try the grilled sole or brill in cider nicely lubricated by some startlingly tasty Quincy (a white wine from south of the Loire). Among the welter of fixed-price menus, the choice extends from plump green asparagus, in lightly whisked butter sauce, to a sagging platter of Normandy cheeses, followed by a copious helping of homemade apple tart or chocolate profiteroles.
Advantages: Easy Access from UK Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...I have been to Normandy four times now and have never tired of it. I'm planning to visit again in August next year.
Normandy is on of the most historic of the French 'departments'. With the obvious connections of William the Conquerer, to the almost modern day history of the D-Day Landing Beaches.
In Normandy you will never be stuck for something to do.
We usually choose to stay at Deauville, a resort on the coast. Deauville is easily accessible from all of the major ports in Normandy, 30 mins drive from Caen and Le Harve and about 2 1/2 hours from Cherbourg and Dieppe.
Tourist attractions include the Bayeux Tapestry, Bayeux being about 2 hours drive from Deauville. The D-Day Landing Beaches, scattered along the Norman coast, with museums and other related attractions such as Mulberry Harbour and Pegasus Bridge.
Caen itself houses...

Advantages: cheap wine Disadvantages: Climate same as Britain
...We went to Normandy in February The weather was 10c overcast much likeBritain maybe a little bit Warmer. The was Lots of Orchards. The food was good especially the fish dishes which many featured applr in ther recipes which is very pleasant. The supermarkets local ones contain wonderful selections of wines . these supermarkets sell wine cheaper than the ones in Calais and you are better off going to these. the Trains in France are better and Cheaper than in Britain. they are a good way to get arround. the people in Rural normandy dont actually on the whole speak English But it was Good to Drag from your memory the french you learnt at school. the people seem very helpful and friendly....

Advantages: Not far to travel, lots to see Disadvantages: weather a bit unreliable
...We had a fortnights holiday in Normandy a couple of years ago, and it is a nice place to visit. We were based in Houlgate, a nice little resort, with a good beach and some nice resteraunts. There are lots of places to visit: Honfleur is a must, very beautiful, you can see why it was so popular with artists. Deauville and Treuville are picturesque resorts. There is Bayeux, a beautiful town in its own right, besides being host to the world famous tapestry. There are also the d day landing beaches, and lots of museums on the war and d-day landings. Food is very good in the area, and the people - unusually perhaps for France!- are very friendly to the Brits. There are signs everywhere saying Normandy welcomes its liberators. It is not far to reach Normandy, if you dont fancy the drive further South. Unfortunately the weather isnt quite...
