Dunn's river falls is one of my most favourite hot spot in Jamaica if I want a combination of fun and relaxation I can count on this location any time.
THE LOCATION
Dunns River falls is situated in one of Jamaica well know tourist area called OCHO RIOS, or just plain "OCHI" and "The North Coast" as we Jamaicans would referred to it, Ocho Rios is a nice place with a mixture of Tourism and Local life. The name Ocho Rios is Spanish meaning "eight rivers". It is known for its Beautiful tropical clustered trees that forms a foliage, shopping - where you can get all sort souvenirs to remind you of your trip, dining - there are numerous amount of restaurants in that area, along with the beautiful golden sandy beaches and an array of other activities. But the best known and most popular tourist attraction in Ocho Rios and all of Jamaica is the amazing Dunns river falls.
THE FALL
When you enter the park you will follow a path and stairway that leads down to the base of the falls, where you will begin your tour. The tour last about one hours to climb the falls. You normally climb the falls hand in hand with the person in front and behind you, something like a human chain. I saw people climbing the falls by themselves as well so if you don't which to form the human chain I supposed you can climb it on your own. There are quiet a few tour guides that are there to help you and I must say they are very nice people. The falls is 600 feet tall, so this is a challenging climb, but your Dunn's River tour guides are excellent and will give you all the support and confidence you will need to accomplish this journey. If you wish to have your photos taken you could ask the guides to take them for you or you can have them professionally taken and purchase them at the photo shop when your journey is finish. I should have mentioned before that water shoes are required and are available for rent if you do not bring your own. If you don't feel comfortably climbing in a water shoe I supposed you can do it bare footed but you must be warned that parts of the falls are very slippery.
THE PARK
Dunn's river is not just about the great falls but also about it beautiful park. For those who enjoy the gifts of mother nature's then this park is for you to see, you can indulge yourself in the lush of tropical foliage such as ferns, bamboos, ginger lilies, crotons, orchids, a variety of palms and breadfruit trees.
Ferns - are considered vascular plants and are some of the oldest living plants on earth. Currently there are between 10,000 and 12,000 fern species in the world.
Bamboos - are a group of woody perennial evergreen plants in the true grass family Poacea.
Ginger Lilies - are also called Hardy Ginger, but I choose not to use that common name for them because they are really not all that hardy, and there are other plants that go by that name. All ginger lilies hail from tropical Asia and the Himalayas.
Crotons - are trees or shrub native to Southeast Asia it is an extensive plant genus of the family Euphorbiaceae.
Orchid - is the largest family of the flowering plants (Angiospermae). Its name is derived from the genus Orchis.
Palm trees - are medium-sized trees that grow in coastal regions. Palm trees often grow close to water. Palm trees have long trunks that do not have many leaves until you get close to the top. Their leaves look like very big feathers.
Breadfruit trees - is a tree that bares fruit. They are just a bit smaller than a football. It has also been widely planted in tropical regions.
THE BEACH
If you feel like not doing any of the above of course you can have a relaxing moment at the base of the fall where the river meets the ocean. You can relax and enjoy the beautiful sun on the perfectly laid out golden sand. The beach is normally crowded with every one minding their own business, commonly you get the locals having a fun day out with their families or friend.
THE SHOPS
The shops are located at the top of Dunns River. You are able to purchase souvenirs such as wood carvings, straw craft, clothing and loads more work of arts.
THE CAFETERIA
At the cafeteria they are several delights to please your taste buds from spicy jerked chicken, pork or fish and curried goat to scrumptious snacks. Also they are several barbeque pits around the park so you can bring your own stuff and take advantage of them.
THE COST
To enter the park for a tour you normally have to pay or unless your vacation is all inclusive, the fees were ADULTS: $36.00usd - which is around GB£20.00, CHILD:$28.00usd - which is around GB£15.00 and that is children under 12 years and children under 3 years goes for free.

Dunn's River Falls & Park is the ideal surroundings for amusements and relaxation for the entire family. So if you ever go to Jamaica I would recommend you the visit the famous Dunn's river falls.
Advantages: Fun and different Disadvantages: Not suitable for all people to partake in
...an organised trip to the Dunn's river falls included. Because it was pre organised everything was arranged prior to our arrival. However, the Dunn's River falls and park, where it is situated, seems to be the same from the main website so I will give you my opinion on this place as it is one of Jamaica's top attractions that you simply must visit if going on a trip to Jamaica!
What is it?
Dunn's River falls and park is located in Ocho Rios and ... ...the falls that are at the end of the river which eventually leads right into the ocean at the bottom on the beach. The fall section is quite mild really and not a huge falls. There are plenty of rocks near to the surface and no part of it is too deep which is what makes it ideal for climbing. The park surrounding the falls itself have many areas to enjoy a picnic and there is an onsite cafe and gift shop. How do I get there?

DUNS RIVER FALLS
While on holiday in Jamacia, You must Visit the Dunns river falls!!
While I was the Country I opted to go on the catermerang party boat to the duns river falls. With a relaxing ride to the falls lasting about 45 minutes before arrival. Before the climb we where asked to form a line and hold hands, which made climbing the falls alot easier than to climb on your own.
It took about an hour to get to the top of the Duns River falls, ... ...along the way up.
A tour guide videoed the whole experience, which is great viewing now, complete with reggee tracks through out the tape - NOT TO BE MISSED, A GREAT EXPERIEENCE!!l
I would advice to wear old trainers or buy protective shoes out there. Defernatly not flip flops. Also I would take a waterproof disposable camera ...

...then once you arrived at Dunn's river falls it was time to climb!
At first I thought that I would stand and watch, but I really wanted to try the climb and found that I managed pretty easily when following my own rules.
You are asked to hold hands with the person in front and the person behind you, however at certain times I found that I needed both hands to climb the rocks (especially where it can get a bit slippery). It is, however, a good idea ... ...you, as you are able to help each other out quite a lot and find different ways across the rocks.
The experienced tour guides are always there with help and advice and will climb beside you if you so wish.
The guides are also there to make this a lot of fun, we gave our underwater camera to one of the helpful staff who took our picture in the falls.
There are plenty of opportunities to "smile for the camera" whilst on this climb, so, if you want ...

...for a week and the Dunn's River Falls was by far the single most amazing experiences I have ever fulfilled. After an hour trip with a mini bus full of people from our stay at Montego Bay, we finally arrived at Dunn's River Falls. We started off at the foot of the falls where we had to start our journey hand in hand up the river falls in the formation of girl, boy. There are allocated camera men for each party of people who will film your whole journey ... ...able to purchase a DVD of your journey to take home to remind you of the experience. I will admit there is quite a strong current and the some rocks are very slippery so you MUST be careful to ensure your safety. There are staff to help you if you trip or slip or cant keep balance so I wouldn't worry and also the way you are all holding hands, you get more balance and you can help eachother up. There are also points where if you feel the falls are ...

...say about my experience of Dunn's River Falls but FANTASTIC !!! My husband and I enjoyed it so much we did it twice !! You travel to it by coach ( probably best to arrange the trip through your hotel as we did, to ensure you are going with a reputable coach and guide). Our guide was called Chicken and a nicer guide ... ...you for safe keeping (so you don't ruin it when you get wet (and believe me you WILL get wet) He leads you up the waterfall in stages so it is never too tiring. He also takes photos of you with the water running over with your own camera. When you reach the top there is a small market selling traditional Jamaician wears. This can make you feel a bit wary as there seems to be people constantly trying to get you to buy their products (but it is no ...

Have you ever wanted to swim with dolphins or sharks, then the dolphin cove at treasure reef Jamaica is the place to go, for the experience of a life time.
Dolphin cove is located in OchoRios, Jamaica, very close to Dunn's RiverFalls.
ABOUT DOLPHIN COVE
Dolphin cove is Jamaica's number one marine attraction. The cove its self is set in Jamaica's tropical north coast, this natural cove is surrounded by five acres of tropical rain forest, so the scenery is out of this world, you can only imagine why the cove was nominated for the world travel award in 2007.
Here you can swim and interact with a family of bottle nose blue dolphins, in their natural habitat of the Caribbean ocean itself, you can enjoy the thrill and love of these stunning animals, during your visit.
A new edition to dolphin cove is the shark encounter, here you can ...
Advantages: Everything - its an amazing place! Disadvantages: None that we encountered, although we heard it wasn't safe to venture out into Negril on your own.

There's lots of activities to do (gym, tennis, horse riding, watersports, etc), or you can just be lazy! There's entertainment on every night, but you're not forced into joining in - the beach party was a good laugh, though! Some trips are included - a sunset catamaran cruise, trip to the Pickled Parrot for cliff jumping - and others. We paid to do a trip down the Black River to see crocodiles, which was amazing. We also got a visit to the YS Falls included in that trip, which was pretty spectacular (though not as spectacular as DunnsRiverFalls, which we went to from Couples OchoRios - you can pay to visit it from Couples Negril, but its free from OchoRios).
All in all we had a fantastic time at Couples Negril and didn't want to leave to go to OchoRios. But it was an experience to fly in a 6-seater plane - just us ...
