...on a bus boat the will take you to designated stops or the expensive way get a private taxi that will take you right to your hotel. This cost about 140 euros for a round trip.
A bit of advice, buy a Venice card for the vaporrettos and all the boats. It’s a bargain as the boats are the main way to get around unless you want to walk.
We stayed at a palace place it was really nice. It was a 5 minute walk from Rialto, (which is one of the famous bridges that crosses the grand canal) and 5 minutes from St. Marks square, (which is the main square it faces onto the grand canal.)
The quality of the accomidation was good not the best but good. The room had AC which in the middle of july is a good thing to have. The hotel (palace) we were at did breakfast and the rooms were huge like 5 metre high rooms and a bath attachment. The people in the hotel...

Advantages: Beautiful, centre of town Disadvantages: Pidgeons. Tourists.

Pickpockets are everywhere in Venice, it is pretty much just a tourist place so its easy pickings for them, so be warned. I was felt for my wallet while there last time, lucky someone else was carrying it for me!

There is a water taxi stand quite close to the square or if you are over...

...and all the goods for consumerism - The boat ambulance and police force -just about every thing.
I only saw one person in a wheel chair and I would say that Venice is not really a place for the disabled but it made me think, I saw one bridge with a stair lift and some larger toilets at the airport. Maybe if someone stayed in a hotel on the Grand Canal they could manage with help but their itinerary would have to be planned thoroughly.
So what is Venice like? We have all heard that although it smells it is also very romantic. In winter it does not smell unless you are near building works, we must remember that sewage goes into the water but saying that the water looks as clean as the Thames in London.
There was a lot of renovation work it is probably due to the time of the year as the Venetians get ready for their summer visitors...

I stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago and it had recently been refurbished. It is tucked away down a side road but that meant that it was quiet and peaceful. The rooms were large, clean and very nicely decorated with two double beds, good air... more
