Location- Basicaly in the centre of Florence you cant miss it. Very easy to get to by public transport but will probably be in walking distance from where ever you are in florence (10mins for central train station, 10/15 mins from main bus station.)
The visit - What to see, The cathedral, Dome , S. Reparata (archaeological site) , Giotto's bell tower ,Baptistery , Museum , Church of Saint Benedict, - i did not see all of these parts , i saw the dome, the Cathedral and Giottos bell tower but i am suer if you have the time its is all very much worth going to see. Be warned though it is not for the faint of heart to see the bell tower and the dome thers quite a few steps to climb but it is well worth it (you can see the whole of the city from the top)
OPENING TIMES AND COST- The cost was fairly inexpensive , it cost me 12 euros , for the bell tower and the Dome, with the Catherdral it self being Free entry , if you were to do all of the sites i could would probably be no more than 25 euros. I think most parts are open daily 8:30-7:30 apart from sundays wich they are closed.
My verdict - I went to florence for a weekend break last summer and seen most of the major attractions but by far "il duomo" was the most breath taking and amazing site i saw. It was funny because florence is so built up you can walk around the corner and it can become out of site , as we were following directions to the duomo. You can hardley see it intill it is right in front of you. Which i think made the impact even bigger. The beauty of the Duomo and sheer size almost brought a tear to my eye. It captures your mind as you slowly walk around it in awe. Definiately a must see for anyone going to visit Florence. You could stand there and look at it all day.

Review of Duomo - Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori, Florence
Advantages: The world famous Duomo -must go Disadvantages: No
...place in Florence is the Duomo which seats right in the centre of the city. It forms the city's skyline and it's also the symbol of the city. . The legendary duomo is famous for its dome: Brunelleschi's Renaissance masterpiece, completed in 1436, created a double dome shell so that the dome is entirely self-supporting. The frescoes inside the dome depict the Last Judgement. and it's one of the most fantastic religious painting I've ever seen. Personally ...

Its the image that comes to mind when people think of Florence. The huge cathedral with the enormous dome and the bell tower by its side are awe-inspiring to look at.
ACCESS
The Cathedral is located right in the centre of Florence. You can't really miss it because of the enormous dome and the bell tower which stands along side it. I'm not sure about the local public transport becuase I walked everywhere, its so central that you won't need anything ... ...walk from the main train station as well.
The Cathedral itself is free, but you have to pay for all the extras, such as going up into the dome, the museum, the bell tower and the baptistry and these can add up to around 20 Euros if you do all of them, so beware!
THE VISIT
The cathedral was begun at the end of the 13th century, but was added to right up until the 19th century. It was not actually consecrated until around 140 years after it was ...
