The must-go place in Florence is the Duomo which seats right in the centre of the city. It forms the city's skyline and it's also the symbol of the city. . The legendary duomo is famous for its dome: Brunelleschi's Renaissance masterpiece, completed in 1436, created a double dome shell so that the dome is entirely self-supporting. The frescoes inside the dome depict the Last Judgement. and it's one of the most fantastic religious painting I've ever seen. Personally I've been a a lot of churches in Europe but the painting inside this church is definitely my favourite.
Next to the Duomo is the Baptistery, one of the oldest architectural monuments of the city, which is also famous for its "Gates of Paradise", made of gold.
