Landmark Rooms A Must
Advantages Large rooms, service, view, location
Disadvantages Small pool
I stayed at the Dusit Thani in November of this year (2001).
We treated ourselves to the Landmark suite for 4 nights - pay the extra and I dare you to find a larger hotel room in the world at that price.2 balconies, 2 TV's, 3 telephones, beautiful marble bathroom with walk in shower, separate, dressing room and entrance hall, smart furnishings, writing bureau and sofa. Wonderful views of Bangkok from the 12th floor, bed beautifully made with orchids, fruit bowl on arrival, friendly & prompt service and all a stone's throw away from the buzz of Patpong night market. It's also right beside the skytrain station and always easy to find a Tuk Tuk outside.
The lobby is impressive but not opulent, the restaurants serve great food and room service is not only excellent value for money but also wonderfully laid out. There's a large choice at breakfast, and although Landmark accomodation entitles you to breakfast in the Executive restaurant I'd I'd stick with the main one - it's less stuffy and has more choice. The Dusit Thani doesn't have the grandeur or style of the Oriental or Shangri-La but you do feel very welcome and the rooms are very clean and spacious.
The swimming pool is small and only open until about 7PM - other than that no negative comments. The hotel can provide transport to the airport which at £20 is expensive but you do get a chauffer driven Mercedes - a nice way to finish off your stay.
