Dusseldorf is one of the most attractive and upmarket cities in Germany. Partly this is because of the international makeup of the city. Many firms, in particular Japanese firms have made Dusseldorf their European base, and this toghther with the international Messe(trading fair)provides a very international outlook. Not being able to speak german is not a disadvantage as much as in other german cities, with most people in shops, resturants and civil officals speaking at least passable english. Possibly the two greatest attractions in dusseldorf are the Altstadt(old city) and the Konigssalle, which is one of the premier shopping streets worldwide. The altstadt is a large pedestrian area containing shops, resturants and bars, and is known as the longest bar in the world, with the area covering more than three square kilometers. The konigsalle is a wonderful place to window shop, unless you are extremely wealthy and willing to part with large sums of money. The transport in dusseldorf is also excellent with trams running between the centre and the messe every 15 minutes. There is also a train servive from the airport which lasts about 10 mins or taking a taxi is also relatively cheap, about 25 dm(8 pounds) to the centre of town.
Advantages: Huge Selection Disadvantages: Can be expensive
There is a wide selecion of pubs in dusseldorf so I will only recommend a few of the best. To begin with I will recommend a few pubs in the altstadt. The first is McLaughlins Irish Pub. This is widely regarded as the premium Irish pub in Dusseldorf. This is partly because of the wide selsection of nationalities of the pubs customers. it is easy here to walk in and immediatley find someone to talk about, usually in english. The staff here are very ... ...visitors to dusseldorf and give them a few tips of whats on. Every Thursday here is a student night but everyone not just students are welcome, the beer is half price and there is always a great atmosphere. The second is Mai Tai which is a Thai cocktail bar located in the altstadt, which serves a large range of cocktails at reasonalbe prices. Stateside is an American bar/resturant with good drinks and food a reasonable prices. Pocol Loco is a slightly ...

Advantages: Quality Disadvantages: Can be expensive
The cheapest club of any quality in Dusseldorf is Sub which is located in the Altstadt. This club only costs 5dm(1.70 pounds)to get in and then provides well priced drinks. A large cocktail for example costs about DM 14 which is less than five pounds, while a glass of draught beer(0.3 litre) costs about DM 3.50 which is about 1.15 pounds. A large advantage is that there is waiter service so you don't have to spend a long time waiting for a drink. ... ...the main components, although these are mostly commercial tracks. The club is well worth a visit. Other clubs worthwhile include La Rocca which is located on the Konigsalle and is more expensive, playing mostly hardcore house and trans. The Malkasten is one of the best clubs in Dusseldorf but is quite expensive, entrance on the weekends being between 10-15 pounds. Here on many Saturdays they have dj´s from the Ministry of Sound. The Room located ...

Review of Düsseldorf (Germany)
The standard and price of resturants in dusseldorf varies greatly, so I have decided to split this section in two, with recommendations for business travellers and for those on a tighter budjet. Firstly for business travellers, there are two Italian resturants that i would highly recommend. The first is La Terraza which is located looking over the Konigsalle providing a very nice view. The menu here is some what limited and the food expensive, but ... ...The second resutrant is Rossini which is located on the tram line number U79 at the stop Nordstrasse. This resturant has a slightly larger menu as well as boasting an excellent wine menu, but again is somewhat expensive. Another premium resturant is Im Schiffchen which is located in the subarb Kaiserswerth which is also on the same tram line, a twenty minute ride from the city centre. This is widely considered to be the finest resturant in Dusseldorf, ...

Advantages: Welcoming to young people, lots to do, welcoming to English people Disadvantages: very big and possibly confusing at times
When I visited Duesseldorf I went because I had a German friend who lived there. Being 17 I was able to take advantage of the lower pub entry age to that of England which was great for socialising in the evening's with his friends. The accomodation I stayed in was a youth hostel on the west side of the river Rhine, just across the water from the main part of Duesseldorf. Not only was the accomodation cheap but also no more than a 20min walk from ... ...a large number of Turkish people living there which means that there is a lot of Turkish influence in the city, none more so than in the food as there are many "Doenar" shops selling authentic Turkish food.
The best thing for myself would have to be the fact that i was able to go into the "altstadt" in the evening, where most of the pubs and clubs are, and be able to actually drink alcohol! I know this is not unique to Germany but the atmosphere ...

We recently stayed in the Soret Hotel Dussseldorf and feel that this hotel is worth a mention. After I received the offer from Buzz for a cheap flight we thought that this would be an ideal opportunity to visit friends in Germany..but I still needed to find a hotel..I wanted the weekend to be special so began the search for a five star hotel. The majority were a little too expensive.I then searched the internet for a four star hotel and found the Soret sight.I would normally look for a hotel with a pool. But in Germany they tend to wear very little in the pool! and I think that I am a little too prudish to be bearing all!!
The hotel I found can be located at www.sorat-hotels.com

Advantages: A huge choice of pubs and restaurants Disadvantages: Hotels are normally slightly out of town
Having lived in Dusseldorf for a year, I left completely in love with the city. Not only are the people there extremely friendly, outgoing and helpful but there is so much to do and see. In terms of attractions it may not have as many as other German cities but it definitely still has much to offer. It is situated in North Germany just next to the river Rhine, which offers very reasonably priced river cruises. When i went last year it cost just 12 euros for a trip up to the media harbour, whose modern buildings are amazing and definitely worth seeing. You can however, go as far as Cologne on these cruises. Another famous attraction of this city is the Rheinturm or tower, situated slightly outside of the old town, which is definitely worth going to. For a small fee you can go right up to the viewing platform, 164 metres above the ground ...
Advantages: Great food, beer and friendly helpful people Disadvantages: Weeze airport is miles away - closer to Holland!
We recently went on a stag weekend to Dusseldorf and I can say the place is fantastically suited for this type of occasion! While the cheaper hotels may be slightly out of the town centre, the public transport system is cheap, efficient and clean, with trams every 10minutes, so getting the troops in and out to the many pubs and bars is not a problem. The main area to go is the Altstadt found by the Rhine, where more bars than I've ever seen in one area before can be found, many of which stay open til the early hours and serve tons of different beers at a reasonable price (2E for 330mL). The city itself is very clean and pleasant, the people friendly and incredibly helpful, while the Altstadt also seems to be the main area for German hen parties to go out (we ran into six separate lots!), so there is no shortage of fine frauleins out ...
