Nottingham East Midlands Airport is a regional Airport situated in the Midlands. Serving a range of Destinations, and offering a nice experience it’s the Airport of choice for me.

I’ve flown out of NEMA (Nottingham East Midlands Airport) loads of times now and it is simply one of the best Airports to fly out of. Its situation is a plus as its near Leicester, Derby and Nottingham and adjacent to the M1 the Airport is easy to reach. The Airport is well signposted and easily found.

The Airport serves a number of destinations (78 as of Feb 2005 to be exact) and with First Choice launching its Long-Haul operations from there, even Mexico can be reach from the Midlands! Also in operation are numerous well known Holiday Companies, Airtours, Thomson, Thomas Cook and First Choice. Around 2002 the Airport launched its low cost operations with EasyJet, Bmibaby and Ryanair now serving the airport at incredibly low prices. So plenty of destinations are certainly available and I’m sure a full list will be on the NEMA website.

Right then, using the Airport.

Check-In--------------------- 9/10

The check in area at NEMA is massive and was recently extended, it’s clean and airy. With its suitable size there’s lots of space. There are 52 clearly identified check-ins with carrier and flight details displayed. The speed of check in I would say is fast and efficient. After check in it’s onto Security which is also relatively quick due to plenty of employee’s working. Once through security you arrive in the Departure lounge.

Departure Lounge----------7/10

The departure lounge has all the facilities you’ll need, a restaurant and 2 Bars and a Viewing Facility as well as the usual Duty-Free shops and news shops. The Departure Lounge is kept clean, but it’s in need of a re-vamp, but this will probably be done during the future. The lounge can be busy, but when a number of flights leave at the same time it goes quiet. TV’s and so on are there to keep you entertained as well as other things.

Cleanliness ---------------9/10

The Airport is kept clean, but the restaurant tables can become a mess, but it’s soon cleared up.

Arrival---------------------10/10

When you get off the plane, it’s usually onto a bus, and into the Passport Check area. The baggage collection area is only small but it’s suitable for the traffic. Bags are quickly put onto the conveyor belt. The arrivals area though isn’t very big, and if you want to meet someone there I‘d suggest making a Landmark due to all the people normally there.

Facilities-------------------7/10

The Airport’s facilities include a number of cafes, restaurants and bars, as well as an amazing aviation shop and a Travel Agency. A video games area is situated in the terminal. Also there’s a brilliant viewing area.

The Airport is really easy to navigate due easy to understand signs.

General Airport information.

Parking consists of a Short Stay (12 hours or less)*, Medium Stay (1-4 Days)* and Long Stay (Minimum five day stay)*. (*Amounts in brackets are as far as I know). A bus operates from the terminal to and from the car parks situated a distance away from the terminal. More information will be on the Nottingham East Midlands Airport website.

Transport includes a Skylink, Air-line shuttle, Rainbow 5 and a 240 bus service, which operate from local towns to the airport. More information will be on the Nottingham East Midlands Airport website.

Shopping: shops include: Alpha Airport Shopping- Aviation Gift & hobby centre- Boots- -Crew.uk- Dixons Tax Free- Dominoe’s Toys- Ilkeston Co-op Travel- Judi Judi World- -World News- Redland and a Spar (I think thats al of them).

Children: Crayons and Colouring books are offered free of charge and most restaurants offer Kid’s meals (as far as I know).

As an Airport, with everything in context, I would say this Airport is very good to travel to and from and I would say it’s the best Airport to travel from in the UK if the destinations are available based on the other Airport’s I’ve been too. I hope the review gives a little more information on the Airport.
