Eastbourne (England)

... Someone who lived in Eastbourne, giving me the first chance in 6 years of being a mum to properly get away and have a break and a bit of sunshine on the beach. Of course, it's not the reason I'm dating him, just a rather nice side effect of the relationship . Eastbourne is a large town ... Read review

I love Eastbourne

Advantages: Sunny, plenty to do for kids and adults, wonderful scenery
Disadvantages: I don't live there ........

....

Eastbourne is a large town situated in the south coast of England, which enjoys a large amount of sunshine and warm weather, amongst some rather wonderful views . You have the 4 mile stretch of pristine shingled beaches, the magnificent downs, Beachy Head, and all manner of wonderful things provided by nature to marvel at .

I've been to Eastbourne twice - once by train, and once by coach . Naturally, routes will vary ...
...both my journeys terminated at Eastbourne train station, a small station situated on the outskirts of the main shopping stretch of the town, witha taxi rank right outside, and a Subway inside in case you want something to eat .

On both visits, I stayed at my boyfriends house, in the smart Meads Village area of Eastbourne, which is at the Beachy Head end of the beach. And the first thing I did, after taking a rest, was walk along the ... more

...WHERE IS IT THEN? Eastbourne is a town with a population of around 80,000 people. It is located around 15 miles west of Hastings and 25 miles east of Brighton. It lies in a rain-shadow directly at the eastern edge of the South Downs, which have there highest westerly point at Beachy Head, 3 miles outside of town (it is, incidentally the world’s number one suicide spot, even beating the Golden Gate Bridge, but that is another story). The main roads ...
...of Wilmington on Windover Hill. Eastbourne does not have any dual carriageways leading to it at the moment. The A22 Polegate bypass is currently under construction, but until it is completed, traffic jams are a mighty hazard – oh yes, I lived 2 miles outside town and it could take 45 minutes to reach the town centre! DO YOU WANT TO LIVE HERE? It’s not such a bad old place. There are some quite nice areas, (Meads, Old Town, Lower Willingdon), and ...

The Sunshine Town

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, the seafront, sun
Disadvantages: An image problem

...and are the easiest option. Eastbourne has a delightful one way system that could entrap you if you spend time looking for free parking. If on the other hand you let the train take the stress, you'll arrive at the station, and for the purposes of this opinion, that is where i shall start. Don’t linger in the train station too long, as there is not much to keep you (unless you are desperate for a drink - there is a pub). Instead the nearest attraction ...
...The centre of Eastbourne 'shopping wise' is found in the area bordered by terminus road (household names) , Cornfield Terrace (mostly estate agents, banks and restaurants - and the Tourist Information Centre!), South Street and Gildredge Road (mostly accountants and solicitors) and includes the Arndale centre (more well known retail shops). Terminus Road stretches all the way to the Seafront. That's enough on shops... If the weather is being kind ...

Not just for the old folk

Advantages: Clean, pretty, and plenty to do
Disadvantages: The average age is above normal if you want a young trendy place

I have always understood Eastbourne to be 'God's waiting room', but after taking a holiday there a few years ago I now realise that this is simply not true. I can vaguely remember going there as a child and my parents having to tell me to be quiet and not bounce my ball along the sea front because of all these elderly people sitting in deckchairs frowning at us, so I was expecting pretty much the same atmosphere. I again went with my parents, on ...
...front. The average age in Eastbourne is higher than elsewhere but it isn't a place just for the crumblies by any means. It was a lovely (short) walk to the sea front where there is a beautiful beach. There are well-maintained gardens all the way along the promenade so it's lovely for a stroll or just to sit and watch the world go by. The lifeboat house is on the front but the lifeboat is moored some distance away in the marina so you can't get to ...

The Sunshine Coast

Advantages: The events

...It's run in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council and the RAF. Every year the four day event offers thrilling displays by various aircraft, including Tornados and Spitfires. On all four days you can witness the RAF Falcons do a parachute display and the Red Arrows. All displays have commentary and if you want more info you can tune in to me and my friend on 87.7Fm Radio Airbourne - now there's a plug!!! It's really worth a visit to this one, ...
...and access to the Oval, Eastbourne United FC's training ground. If you're into football there are two other Eastbourne teams besides Eastbourne United - Eastbourne Town and Eastbourne Borough who are the biggest team in the town. Otherwise you could take a trip to Arlington and watch the Eastbourne Eagles Speedway team who have won the Elite League A several times. How Do I Get There? There are regular trains to the town centre, as are there buses, ...

Sunny Eastbourne

Advantages: Sunny Weather. A Floral Town. Nice Promenade
Disadvantages: Pebble Beach

...about seems to be that Eastbourne is a town renowned for being a tad boring and full of geriatrics. However, this is a grossly unfair and untrue piece of inherited wisdom. Eastbourne, with a population not much below 100,00O,is by no means a small, unimportant, town. Its attractive living environment has meant that the Sussex resort has been able to attract some high-tech companies,as well as relying on the important business of tourism. Weather wise ...
...would most certainly regard Eastbourne as gracious. It has a lengthy and very elegant promenade replete with gorgeous flowers in bloom. It has some of the best hotels in Sussex and its shopping centre, including the one-stop Arndale Centre,is not bad at all. The entertainment scene is also quite good. I have certainly come across some pubs of real character, there are plenty of good eateries and not many tacky joints that are often associated with ...

Oh I do like to live beside the seaside....

Advantages: peaceful, pretty, the beach, interesting history, reasonable weather
Disadvantages: not great for shopping, not much to keep young people there

-On-Sea is situated on the south east coast of England. It is 30 miles east of Brighton, 20 miles east of Eastbourne and is 10 miles west of Hastings. I go to University in Brighton and it is a reasonable distance for me to commute. Hastings and Eastbourne are easy to get to by car, train or bus and both have large shopping centres so these would the normal location for my spending sprees. It is also only just over an hour away from Gatwick airport and the chanel ferry ports making it quite a good location to travel from. The Beach Having grown up the sea right on my doorstep (not literally so no need to go searching for me along the prom!) I never really appreciated it until I got older. I loved going to the beach when I was younger, but it was only when I moved to Brighton for my first two years of Uni that I saw people who were ...

Review of Bexhill on Sea (England)

Come to the seaside and play!

Advantages: The sea, the downs and the countryside nearby
Disadvantages: seaweed

the fireworks off from the end of the pier and it was a stunning show, late at night the beach was absolutely crowded, standing room only but worth it all the same. If you walk along the sea front towards the East you will come across the small boats and fish for sale signs, here you can buy freshly caught fish and have a yarn with seamen who have been fishing through the generations for seemingly forever. If you have a car you can drive inland just a couple of miles or so and be in the heart of Sussex countryside, small winding roads that pass over and around the hills of the South Downs, small villages with their greens and village pubs. The weather is better than a lot of the rest of England, the coast curves inwards from Littlehampton in the West and back out towards Beachy Head at Eastbourne so we are a bit sheltered and the Downs to ...
