We hired a car from Easycar online for a family medium MPV (Citroen Picasso) for a week collecting from Tenerife South Airport. Initally the quote was £160 for the week which seemed reasonable and it appeared from the website we would pay on collection of the car. When booking the car we were quoted right at the end for insurance which was another £40. Making the total £200. Annoyingly this was taken off my credit card as soon as I completed the transaction. On arrival at Tenerife Airport EasyCar dont even have a counter, they franchise the lease out to Record Rentals. On collection of the car which took over 1hr to complete even though it wasnt particularly busy we were informed we would have to pay another £32 insurance as the original insurance didnt cover things such as loss of keys, tyre damage etc etc making a total of £72 insurance for a week. It was pointed out that I had agreed to this in the original contract in the very small print. Basically I felt like Id been stitched up and somewhat naive to trust this company to be straightforward. To add insult to injury they charge you 60p a minute to make a complaint over the phone. I wont be using this firm again and prefer companies who are straightforward to deal with. My advice, stick to the more reputable hire firms, theres no difference in price in the end.
