I started flying with easyJet as soon as I found out that a return from London Luton to Amsterdam was only £35, including tax. Since then, I have used the airline at least six times on this particular route. easyJet achieve these low prices by cutting down on certain inessential cost areas, e.g. agents, paid-for in-flight meals, movies, etc.

easyJet proudly presents itself as a "ticketless airline", and this is indeed the case. A great deal of easyJet's ticket sales occur on the internet - the official website is very well-organized and easy to use. Once you have given your payment details, you are sent an email with your confirmation number, which you are free to copy down, or print out. This confirmation number is all you need (along with a passport for international flights) to check-in.

My experiences with the airline in question have been very good so far. The simple ticketless system reduces hassle before and after the flight, and I have found all of my flights with easyJet to be punctual. Excessively punctual, in some cases, since about half of my flights arrived at the destination ten to fifteen minutes before scheduled arrival time. This once meant the difference between a five-hour wait at Luton Airport, which I had duly prepared for, and the chance to catch an earlier bus.

Obviously, the in-flight entertainment is scanty to say the least. A free easyJet magazine is about all you can expect. Food and beverages are available, but must be paid for, at quite steep prices. Strangely enough, each seat is not even equipped with its own sick bag. Nevertheless, flights are always comfortable, with ample legroom.

None of these factors bothers me in the slightest. London to Amsterdam is only an hour of scheduled flying (often 45 minutes with easyJet), so I can certainly do without many of the in-flight perks I come to expect on longer flights. Paying £20 extra to have the opportunity to book through easyJet agents, and to have provided meals on a flight where the plane starts descending almost as soon as it has finished ascending, is something I can certainly do without.

All in all, easyJet is a great alternative for shorter flights. It operates punctually, and as professionally as the bigger airlines, minus in-flight perks many of us could easily do without, all at a bargain price. Make sure you don't miss out.
